At the adjourned meeting of the city
council held last evening for the pur
pose of opening bids for tlie contem
plated new sewers on Washington, Oak
and other streets, approximating some
five miles in all. the entire body oftieilic
of the city was present with the excep

On motion of Councilman Coad a ce

side of Main street, adjoining the D. C.
Crider property, 100 feet in length, and
Mr. Crider was cited to appear at the
second meeting in September and show
cause, if any, why such walk should not
be laid. This would make all walks on
that block of cement, the other proper
ty owners having announced their in
tention of at once building such.
A bid of 21l* cents a running foot was
received from Roy VVassom for the lay
ing of certain side walks advertised last
week. Consideration of the bid was
laid over until next regular meeting.
The council chamber was well filled
with interested parties to see opened
and read the bids for the new sewerage
system. A number of bidders have been
looking over the ground for the last few
days, and they were there in force last
night to see w hich one of their number
was successful in landing the plum.
Seven bids were presented, all but one
accompanied bv the necessary certified

New Temporary Schoolhou*«.
At a meeting Tuesday night of the
board of directors of school dietriet 2, it
was decided to put up a temporary
structure for the accommodation of tba
primary grades, it being impossible to
secure a room in which to house them,
and the present structure being over
crowded. The new building will be lo
cated on the south east corner of the
school lots, and will be built roughly,
but warmly and convenient. It will be
of only one story, about 50x25, and con-
tain two rooms. This will be made to
' do until such time as a new and larger
j edifice can be erected.
