e DBS. DABRIN'S NEW OFPIOE. The Dootors Will Mova Prom 235 Fifth Street to the New Washington Building December lirst. OwiriR to the increased patronage Dr. Darrin has received during his sojourn in Portland the past threo years, he lias been compelled to enlarge his quarters, and has secured four pletmnt rootns in tho new Washington Imilding, corner of Fourth and Washington streets. The building has an elevator, thus obviating the necessity of walking up stairs to tho second floor where the doctor's ofiicpt. are located. The elevator boy will di rect any one asking for Dr. Damn's df Ike. Separate reception rooms for la dies and gentlemen, or any desiring pri vate consultation. Iteinenificr the change, that after December first the offices will be at the Washington Block, until then at L'.T) Fifth street. Patients comine to the Doctor, will do well to come direct to the office before locating themselves, ns it is necessary in nianv cases to have them near tho oliice. Patients will guard against being influenced by any one di recting them to other doctors. As a fur ther proof of tho doctor's ability to cure people by electricity, we mention the fol lowing names : Ex-Sheriir A. T. Schoep's daughter, proprietor Northwestern hotel, corner Front arid Clay streets, Portland, loss of appetite, liver complaint and rheumatiu neuralgia for six months, cured. Win. M. Colwell, Skamokawa, Wash., sciatic rheumatism and liver complaint, restored to health; also his brother, Geo. L. Colwell, Skamokawa, Wash., was cured of a numbness of the arm. Mrs. 12. Ahlf, 100 North Fourteenth street, Portland, cured after nine doctors had failed, of gainful menstruation and womb trouble in every conceivable way, general debility, pain through tho heart and lungs. Charles Clirisferman, Portland, Ore gon, scrofulous catarrh so bad that de struction of the nose was threatened and had become so offensive that it was sick ening both to himself and friends, cured in two months. C. McLatmhlin, Portland Catarrhal deafness, could scarcely hear a sound or the car bells and was in constant fear of being run over by wagons, cured so he can hear ordinary conversation. Levi Bartmes, Stayton, Or., heart dis ease, dyspepsia, pain throuu'h tho heart and lungs, and general nervous debility, many times he would fall as though dead, when everything seemed to turn black before his ejes; successfully treated. D. Campbell, Fulton, Or., says be would not take $10,000 ior tho aire he received by Dr. D.irrin. His trouble originated by three small lumps or tu mors coming on tne arm, which ron deredlhis arm and hand perfectly help less for one vear. I aint a porson to talk 'bout my neighbors." said old Mrs. Gabb complacently. "1'vo enough to do to 'tend to my own affairs without poking my nose into those of my neighbors. Ib ain't any affair of mine if tho llaycrofts haven't paid their milk bill for threo months, and they ain't, for I quizzed it outof tho milkman himself when 1 paid him my bill; but it's no affair of mine if they never pay it. I've all can do to look after my own bills without bothering my head about my neighbors, but 1 do think it's mighty small business to let a milk bill go unpaid. It's most as bad as tho Greens not paying their wnsawoman for six weeks, and her with six small children to support. That was about tho smallest thing I over heard of. It's no wondor Mrs. Green can have a now silk dress every win tor. Uut don't care how many silk drosses sho has, and it's nothing to me If Mrs. Hill has six bonnots a year. I might have a dozen bonnets a year, if I wa'n't particular whether they was over paid for. But if my husband drank like Mr. Hill drinks I'd think of something elso besides bonnots. But trouble of that kind novor worry somo peoplo. And thoro's tho Snydors. How thoy can hold up tholr heads when they know that half tho town knows certain things. And the Jack sons! Tho airs thoy put on and but far bo It from mo to gossip about any body. I wouldn't stoop to it. I've got enough business of ray own to 'tond to 'thout gossiping about my noighbors." lime. An Hair-Breadth Escape. On tho last day of tho year, while hunting for my Now Year's dinner, nn advonturo befell rao which nearly ulosed my days with the dying year. I had brought down a buffalo, and think ing it disabled and helploss, I proceeded ,o mako suro of my Bpoll. I had al most reached it boforo itseomod awaro of my presence, when, with a grunt of vengeful significance it was on its feet. Instinctively I turned and Hod, pro renting ray rear to its inevitable on slaught. A few seconds and its horn caught mo in tho hip, penetrated sov urul inches, just grazing the femoral artery, and sending mo twirling over head llko a bolt from a catapult. In my fall I got a couplo of ribs broken, and thus lay 6tunned and holp'.ess. 1 was aware, howover, of Its approach to finish mo off, and I closed my eyes thinking my days woro numbored. Somo soconds passed, and I was still allvo. Opening my eyes, I found tho brute lying dond bosldo me. and then I fainted away from loss of blood. Jo seph Thomsou, in Scribner. A TYPICAL WITNESS. What Mm. Knnpp Know About nn As sault ami tt.ittrry Cus. Thcro is no witness so difficult to handle as tho ono who insists on on lightening justico by giving a recital of somo purely personal matter utterly irrelevant to tho caso on trial. This stylo of witness is usually a female, and tho exasperated lawyers feol ton years younger when sho stops down from tho witness stand. A lady of this turn of mind was lato ly a witness in an assault and battery caso which was tried before Justico Duffy in New York. Sho lived on tho same lloor with tho Pattersons, who had indulged In a connubial fracas. It was thought that Mrs. Knapp's testi mony would throw a Hood of light on the somewhat con dieting statements of tho other witnesses. Mrs. Knnpp, whoso jaw wits tied up; curtsied to tho court, smiled at tho jurors, nnd having been sworn, assumed an affidavit ex pression of countonanco, and waited for something to turn up. It may bo mentioned incidentally that tho wit ness' husband was in court, and sentod by tho sido ot tho lawyor of Mr. Pat terson, who was boing prosecuted by Mrs. Patterson. "Mrs. Knapp, what do you know about this case?" asked tho lawyor. "I woko up off and on during tho night, and my jaw ached so that " Lawyer "Nover mind your jaw. Plenso confine yourself to tho assault." "Salt is no good. I've tried bags of hot salt until the skin was blistered." "Please toll what you know about this difficulty." "Just so. Woll. as I was saying, when I got up I know I was in for a bad day, so 1 says to my husband " "Madam," said tho littlo justico, blandly, "wo would liko to got at tho root of this matter.' "That's just what I was doing when you spoke. I felt suro thoro was an abscess at tho root of " "Madam, will you plcaso toll what you know about Patterson striking his wife?" "In a minute, your honor. I wns sitting in tho kitchen holding my jaw, and" Mr. Knapp (to lawyor) "That's a lie. Nothing not oven tho toothache can mako her hold her jaw. " Justico Duffy "Keep right on, madam, and toll what you know about tho row." "Mrs. Patterson carao Into tho kitchen, and sho says " Every body now beenmo interested and lotined forward to hear what was coming. "Yes, sho came into my kitchen, and sho says just what your Honor said put salt on iU" Justico Duffy "Madam, I said noth ing of tho kind. Your tonguo seems to bo liko ono of tho planets. Nothing short of tho power that started it can stoj) it." Mr. Knapp "Duffy has got her down fine. She is liko an old hen. When sho starts to cackling sho don't. need any help." Mrs. Knapp (with a scornful look at Knapp) "1 walked tho lloor for hours and hours. Mrs. Patterson says I " Justice Duffy "Well, nobody ex pected you to walk tho coiling for hours. Will you answor tho lawyer's question?" "Of course. Ain't that what. I'vo been doing? My husband, who is al ways full of fun when ho isn't full of beer, told mo I had bettor como and see you." Justico Duffy "Seo mo?" Mrs. Knapp "Yes, ho said I ought to seo somobody with a pull, and you hud tho biggest pull in tho ward." Lawyer "Madam, you can step down." Mrs. Knapp "You don't want to hear my testimony?" Justico Duffy "No, madam, you aro not required any longer." Mrs. Knnpp "Well, this is a protty how-dc-do. Hero I leave tho clothes in tho tub, and tho breakfast dishes not washed, to como hero aud toll you what I know, and I'm snubbed this way. It's just outrageous." Justice Duffy "Call tho tho noxt witnoss." Exit Mrs. Knnpp indignantly. r Texas Siftings. The Health or Young Wives.
