In Mcmnrlani. At tlio i artiest of relatives mill friends of the Into Mr. Kiiicry, wo publish tliu fol lowing address rend at her funeral, and'u poem to Iicr memory, both written by her husband, Mr. If. C. Kmcry. Friends mid nelglibors: Wo have con vent'd liorc to-day for the purpose of pay ing tht! last repccts to one of our fellow mortal, mid to take the last look upon one that has been with us for many season.. One who, as 1ms been known to many of you, has ."tillered with dicao for a num ber of yearn. The change has come and she has passed on to another state of oxist oni'c. Although we are yet permitted for a moment to look upon the form before us, we know it is only the empty casket for the Jewel it contained is no longer there. The life principle that for a time animated and moved the form has ceased to hold control, nnd has left it and gone forth into a more beautiful home where pain docs not trouble and where it can enjoy the fullness of life for which it ,was being prepared while It had been acting and sojourning in its earthly form. I will now give you n short history of her life. Her name waa Mary Arret tn Ann Waters. She was born August 22, 1823, in Lowdon county, Virginia. At an early aye her parents moved to Ohio and settled in Marion county. When she was about thir teen years old, by the iulluencc of friends, slto was baptized and joined la Christian church there, known as Campbcllitc. lint as yet her mind was void of an understand inn of the doctrines of the church she was connected with. The minister, by whom she wan baptized, was named Adam Little. She with him had many conversations con cerning a future stato of existence which finally led her to adopt a belief in no after life, and that death to the form was the final ending to all life. Vet she and Adam Little promised each other that whichever one passed away first, and Undine; exist ence still, would, if possible, communicate to the other while in this lifo remaining. At the age of eighteen she married her yet surviving husband. Two children were born unto them. The llr.st died at the ago of six years; t ho second at the age of thrco years. .She and her husband hade these children farewell never again expecting to learu or to know of them more. Shu was then left childless, but In the spring of 18.")1. while she anil her husband were eat ing their meal one morning, she became suddenly strangely inllueuced and became entrauc.'d. While in the trance the spirit of Adam Little communicated with her husband, and also both of her children. After nhi.'caino out of the trance she was asked if she recollected anything that transpired while she was in the trance, She said she saw and talked with Adam Little and with both of her children. That and following circumstances thoroughly convinced Iter that though we pass through the valley and shadow of death wo are not dead, and until the hour of her de parture she firmly believed that that which Is called death is only a change to a higher and more beautiful sphere ol existence. Oft wo see our filemU are going, Going from our sight away. Passing through death's gloomy shadow Shall wo bid good-bye for ayoV Must wo say gond-byo forever? Must our hopes all blighted bo? Oh! will death all love tics sever? Will wo ne'er those loved ones see? ilarkl Mithlnks I hear. sonic whisper From that f.ir oil' distant shore, Saying' "when von pass the shadow Wu shall nr.'ct and part no more." Listen 1 Listen I Still I hear thorn, floating gently on the air. Listen! Listen! Do not fear them ; 'Tis the volco of loved ones fair. Now we hear their voices plainly , And their voIcjs plainly say "Wo arc come and are not waiting 'Til your mortal forms decay. "Rtitpn earth njruin wo meet you, Of our joys to let you know, Anil oft times wo hope to greet you While you Journey hero below. " Union. Oregon, Sept. 10. 188!).
