mrrtrrr-.T-i . arris-; na-T IT'S COMING. Sentimental 1'pnple I,oMii Crip, nml tlio Dny C ltctrlliutloii In at Ifnntl. TIic following extracts nro made from tho old Connecticut "blue laws," which were fo culled because they were prin ted on bluo paper: "The governor, and magistrates con vened in general asncmbly are the su premo power, under God, of this inde pendent dominion. From the deter mination of tho assembly no appeal shall be made. No man shall ho a freeman or have a vote unless ho is converted and a member of one of tho churches allowed in the dominion. Each freeman shall swear by tho blessed (iod to bear true allegiance to this dominion, and that .1 emits is the only king. No dissenter from tho essential wor ship of this dominion shall be allowed to give u vole for electing magistrates or any oliuer. No food or lodging shall he offered to u heretic. No one shall cross the river on tho Sabbath but an authorized clergyman. No one shall travel, cook victuals, make beds, sweep houses, cut hair or shave on the Sabbath day. No one phall kiss his or her children on tho K.ilibath or fasting days. Tho Sabbath shall begin at sunset Saturday. Whoever brings caids or dice into the dominion shall pay a Hue of .Cf. No one shall eat mince pies, daiieo, play cards or play any instrument of iVWk ftNcejJt the drum, trumpet or jewslniip. No gMSpel preacher shall join people in marriage. Tho magistrate may join them in marriage, as ho may do it Willi less scandal to Christ's church. No man shall court a maid in per ron or by letter without obtaining tho concent of her parents; .Co penally for tho lirst o dense, 10 for tho second, and for the third imprisonment during the pleasure of tho court." There is an element in this city which would like to have just such laws unacted hero with oven far more sumptuary additions. They would like to say what sort of bread others shall eat, and tlioy would liko to say that a glass of wine at dinner should ho prohibited. They would liko to al so say that certain organizations of feeble-minded men and strong-minded women should be tho governing power mentioned in tho first paragraph. Then llioro are others who would liko to afliliato and rule with tho above mentioned, while they got drunk and gambled on the sly; dance, elad in the brief authority of an undershirt with women of tho town at unseemly hours; cheat their neighbors at any opportunity and revile, slander and misii!?o those to whom they owe grati tude all tho time. Thanks to tho reign of right and rea son, that such things as blue laws and overy thing akin thereto are losing their grip, and the day of rctiilmtion is at hand. Taeoma Globe.
