THE ARIZONA KICKER.
tome l'ccullurltlra or JaurimlUtlc I.llr tn
n Western Territory.
What It Means. This half-sheet is
no accident. Wo issued it to save our
legal notices. Hnd wo had no lerral
nds wo should havo skipped publica
tion entirely. When it is cold enough
in this town to freeze whisky within
Ion feet ot a red-hot stovo thero is no
call for an editor to got up and hump
himself. Our esteemed contemporary
down the street calculates to skip two
weeks and got drunk at least four
times, and we shall bo with him in
spirit While wo aim to publish the
greatest newspaper in the West wo
can't fight 27 below zero worth
shucks. Cum dig solis, which means
that as soon as tho blizzard lets up wo
will try to do better.
Tan Samoa Akfaik. In case of a
war count us in! We have already ar
ranged, in caso war breaks out, to leave
tho Kicker in good hands, or suspend
publication altogether and go to the
front. We shall go as a General. Wo
shall bo prepared to part with a liberal
quantity of our blood, devour our sharo
of hard tack, and return to receive tho
plaudits of the multitude. Let 'er go,
Gallagher!
Gone to the II. II. G. An Indian
named "He-that-thinks-a-great-deal"
drank a pint of Branson's budge the
otherovonlngand started for his abode
across tho creek. Yesterday his dead
body was found on tho highway near
tho bridge, frozen so stiff that it broke
in two as the boys loaded It up. Tho
spirit had gone to tho happy hunting
grounds, thero to know sorrow never
again. "Ho-that-thinks-a-great-deal
will think no more. Had he thought a
groat deal more about water and a
great deal less about whisky lie might
have pulled through until spring and
had another chauoo to run oil a horse,
but he had become discouraged and
wonted to go. Uo is gone. It is well.
We traded him a year's subscription
to the Kicker for four big jack-rabbits,
and wo are six months ahead of him.
Moi.kiiii.i. vs. Mountain. There is
a disposition on tho part of a few mud
sills to magnify tho little incident
which occurred at the posl-olllee last
Tuesday evening. Last week wo re
ferred to Colonel Crocker as a thief.
Wo were wrong. Ho was arrested in
Illinois for arson and jumped his bail.
Ho mot us in tho post-otllco and
knocked us down. While down we
explained that wo were in error, and
ho apologized and helped brush the
dirt oil our clothes. That's all there
was to it one of tho trilling incidents
of every-dny lifo and that class who
nro seeking to exaggerate the facts
will make nothing by it. When wo
call an incendiary a thief a robber, an
absconder a bigamist an embezzler,
we shall apologize every time. There
is uo reason why an editor shouldn't
also bo a gentleman.
W 1:1,1. Sim'I'i.ieu. J. M. Tompkins,
our leading and popular druggist, has
received from the Last a fresh supply
of arsenic, strychnine and rough on
rats, and any one requiring any thing
in that line will find his goods fresh and
hisopriees exceedingly moderate. Mr.
Tompkins uses tho poor just as well
:s the rich, and all who come are lhado
welcome.
In Goon Time. 1 ho "Howling Hy
ena," which boasts of a weekly circu
lation ofl 2ft copies, and whoso jealousy
of tho Kicker's success is a matter of
public comment, sneoringly observed
last week that wo had not yet secured
tho right to put "postmaster" after our
name. Don't bo in a hurry, gentle
men. Wo began on tho ground lloor,
and wo can't grow nine stories all at
once. We don't want to bo postmaster
just at present, being engaged in con
ducting a great weekly newspaper, a
grocery, butcher shop, and hardware
store combined, but when we get more
time we may have something to say
about oven the governorship. The only
jiang of sorrow we fool is one for tho
editor of the Howling Hyena, who will
have tilled a drunkard's grave before
our plans are perfected.
A Comii:rr Vi:i:sion Thero are
sovoral versions Hying around in re
gard to the unfortunate affair in tho
lied Front Saloon last Friday night. As
we were present and a witness wo will
state that when Major Shainocken came
in ho was inebriated. Some one laugh
ingly asked him how ho escaped from
Joliet, and tho Major foolishly insisted
that his character had been impugned.
As wo owed him fifteou dollars ho
did not want to harm U9, but passed on
to Judge Shooks. Tho Judge was also
far gone with drink and in bad temper,
and tho two douched and rolled on tho
lloor. The stovo was upset, and in Ittf
fall tho Major was mortally injured.
This is a plain statement of tho case.
Wo all know that tho Major was a
horse-thief, and he shouldn't havo been
bo thin-skinned. Wo all know tho
Judge as an old bum and corrupt olli
cial, and ho shouldn't havo been so
ready to light. Both were to blame
and yot neither could bo hold culpable.
Detroit Free l'ross.
Keep the Children's Faith.
Mother, don't destroy your chil
dren's faith in you by not keeping
your promises to them, no mnttor how
trifling thoy may eom. Tho simple
childish faith they place in you should
bo a reason, if thero was no other, for
keeping tho promises once made. Tho
child may doubt every one else but will
bellovo the mother. A child's faith is
Involuntary, born of weakness and
conscious dopondonco, and his mother
Is his law and gospol. But lot a child
unco distrust the word of his mother,
and he losos forever his simple child
ish faith. It is a shook that tho tender
iwislbilltlos never recover from, and
often a omul disillusion that make,
blm ultimately perhaps a cynic. De
troit Tribune,
SflREWD ADVERTISERS.
Headers of the newspapers of the'day
cannot fail to be impressed with the fact
that the modern advertiser is progressive.
He u compelled to be, else competitors
more active m the invention of new ad
vertising devices, will outstrip him in
public favor.
Tho value of printers' ink judiciously
and scientifically employed cannot be
overestimated ; "it is the medium where
by a meritorious discovery is raised from
local fame to a position in the public es
teem. Hence the columns of the yews
papers are daily used by hotts of adver
tisers and in the competition which is in
dulged in to attain the desired end, the
reader is oftentimes amused.
The greatest of Ainerican'advertisers,
and it tnav as well be said in the world,
isH. H. Warner of Rochester, N. Y.,
whose name has leen made everywhere
familiar in connection with Warner's
?afe Cure, widely advertised because of
its merit in the prevention and cure of
kidney diseases.
By printers' ink this great discovery
lias achieved world-wide iwpulurity
and thousands feel grateful for the
knowledge thus acquired of this greatest
of modern remedies.
Furthermore, the public lias been
taught that disorders of the lungs, brain,
heart and liver which have hitherto been
regarded and treated by the profession as
distinctive diseases are not so in fact, but
are the attending symptoms of disease of
tho kidneys ; therefore, thoconsuniptive,
the apoplectic, the paralytic, and the suf
ferer from nervous disorders can be re
stored to health by Warner's Safe Cure,
which will remove the true cause of those
disorders by restoring the kidneys to
healthy action.
The advertising methods employed by
this greatest of advertisers are invariably
instructive and, although the reader may
sometimes be "caught" in reading ah
advertisement, which was not at first sup
posed to bo such, tliere is nevertheless
no time lost since useful information is
invariably gained concerning life's great
problem.
"Oh, merciful heavens!" exclaimed Mrs.
Shriekwell, looking up from tho nowspnper
as she rend tho startling headlines: "Another
Theatre Horror 1" "What is it!" anxiously
inquired her husband. "Another theatre
burned," sho said, "nnd u scene painter and
three actors were hurt, and a chest full of
manuscript plays anil all tho wardrobe
burned up." "Those empty headed liars of
editors," growled Mr. Shriekwell; "they
ought to bo prosecuted for printing mislead
ing head lines. Call thata horror! I thought
somebody had brought out another English
comedy." Hunletto.

freo and easy sort of a jHirsonugo, who caiuo

opposing counsel. Alter tho witness had
given testimony, tho tono of which showed a
decided bias against tho principal on tho
other side, tho latter's .attorney took him in
hand. ''You do not like Mr. Jones very
much, I seo?'1 "No, I doosn't," was tho candid
reply. "Why is it that you so disliko
him?" "Can't say, boss, upless 'tis .ho's
too much o' darky an' a half to suit dis
chilo." Hero his honor turned to tho witness
to inquire what ho meant by referring to the,

witness replied: "You see, jedge, I call him
a dnrky nn' a half, coz he puts on too uiuny
airs for ono nigger, an' iiot quite enough for
two." Boston Budget.
