M., Jack Pittman and Dick Bluin, miners well known in that section, got into a dis- puto during which Pittman called tho other a liar. Blain challenged Pitt man to a duel with revolvers at thirty yards. Tho firing took place at a spot in tho outskirts of town where several Miuihir encounters have occurred. Y., saj's: John Jones has been engaged by a railroad company in China for tho past threo years, and his mission is to hire 500 engineers, firemen and brakomen to run trains on tho Ameri can systom in China. See that they are perfectly clear, with not a dark spot through them. A good way to tell a fresh egg is by the air bubble on the large nd. The smaller the air bubble the fresher tho egg. A fresh egg must bo closely examined to lover see the air bubble. Hold it up to an egg tester, turn it around slowly and look close near the top of the largo end. If the bubble looks large, say one-quarter ef an inch deep, it should not be used. Get a fresh egg, newly laid, and make yourself familiar with tho position and size of tho air bubble. HE. VAT'.. The report 'shows that none of these roads were ever constructed, although several Governors of tho State certified to their completion. On these certifi cates of the Governors, patents havo been issued to these companies for 1,000.000 acres. Senator Ingalls presented in the Senate a very remarkable petition. It is signed by lUo.uw citizens of tho thirteen original states of the Union., protesting against the admission of Utah to the Union. The petition is about the size of a nail kec. and is trimmed with red, white and blue bunting. Ladies were mainly instru mental in securing the signatures. It is claimod that though tho mule may be stubborn, yet he seldom runs away or becomes frightened, nor does he shy at ev6ry object. A four-year-old hog of the Tarmouth breed, standing four feet high and weighing 1)60 pounds, was exhibited at the recent Chicago fat stock show There is nothing more stimulating to milk secretion than warm mashes of wheat bran, but the milk will not be rich m cream except at the expense oi the cow. If all the hogs fattened in the United States in a year were fattened in warm instead of cold weather, one- half the grain now fed would make ill the pork.
