Mr. John Phy gave a very pleasant

being the occasion Of his birthday.
The Cove rille club shoot regularly

last match, Alex Cochran made the
highest score.
Every voter in Covo has signed the
petition to the legislature, remonstra
ting against the cutting ofT of any part
of the southern poition of the county.
Messrs. Smith, Fulk ami Martin
were up from Summervill,', Thursday.
These geirlemen are among the most
anient sports in the valley and never
fail to make good boys.
No pains are being spared in makinir
preparations for the masque skating
carnival, Feb. 14th., at the hall. Two

Harvey Whitmore, a nephew of Ja
cob collius arrived in Suntmerville on
Saturday last. He reports very col I

Mr. Geo. Childers, living on the
sand ridge 7 miles south of Summer
ville, cut an artery in his left arm
while splitting some kindlings with a
hatchet, 'and came near blending to

series of meetings at the lower school

The Eagle valley literary society is

There is to be a contest between the
Dry creek spi lling K hnol and Ihe Loop
school, at the Hewitt school house
next Friday evening.
The balls, parlies and sleighing has
led lo quite a number of happy wed
dings in Ihe Valley, and several that is
not quite a wedding. So, giils, spuck
up and let the ft Hows know you are
in earnest and not llirtiitg. There are
many old sore-head batchelors that
would start instantly for a licence if
I hey knew what was what.
There will probably be several road
potitiiins presented at the spring term
of court for location. The most of the
toads that have been granted are in
very good condition, but there is sev
eral more badly needed, and now is
Ihe time to locate the same, before the
iinpioveiuents are permanently fixed.
There are solue however that are so
narrow-minded and near-sighted they
wdl not inovu a line of fence or give
ground without damages, no matter
how much behelit they might derive
from it. And then our road law is so
complicated and so much red tape to
be used, and expi nsive, that Wit Very
few have the time, means and inclina
tion lo grajii le with il, m they prefer
to have narrow lanes, gates and bars,
which is generally a constant s tlrce
of hard feeling, bickering and stiife.
So, be libel'al and allow a road to be
located aloi'g your outside lines at
