We rode at least u mile unil u half, aays Gen. lligginsoii in Blackwood's, past the lino of tents, and must have been 50,000 men. The ground ia prettily accident?, and altogether well suited for camp purposes At tne end we came upon the guard regiments and the Preobrajensky regiment, .wili whom lutfshed the inspection: mm ncre were aswmuieu an u o bands and drums, to the number of 800, in. one compact mass facing tho einpiesf) pavilion or lent, at the door of whicli she and her ladies alighted, and were joined by tho emperor and grand dukes. We all dismounted and came inside the squaro.of which the royalty and staff formed one side, tlio musicians the opposite aid?, the other t wo sides being composed of odicers of the various corps who had hurried to the spot. In the center, on a mound. stood tho condutor of the united , i-'inus oi music, ana near him one drummer-boy, or perhaps a lad of 20. We, the foreign missions, stood in line, and the emperor came down from the pavilion and spoke to each of the generals. He was very gracious to me, and inquired about my service and the commands I had held. This over, ho stood alone in the center, and a detachment of Kcrscnnts in full marching order passed him one by one, each sergeant giving the evening report of his picket and of the usual "watch-sett iiiL'" in a loud voice, the czar thus fulfilling for the moment the 1 role of camp commandant. Every head is uncovered and bows, from the furthermost spectator; and I should in my heart pity the man who, as the little lacVs "Amen" went up in its solitary simplicity, could scoff atoreven be unimpressed by thesilence which followed. There was a total ab sence of all exaggeration or straining for increased effect. Heaven 'only knows tho agony I then nurtured, for words can never descrilK) it. Ami yet, if a Ijw years previous any one had told me that I was to be brought so low, nnd by so terrible a discnMC, I should have scoffed nt tho idea. I had always been uncommonly strong and healthy, and weighed over 200 pounds, nnd hnrdly knew, in my own expe rience, what pain or sickness were. Very many people who will road this statement realize at times they are unusually tired nnd cannot account for it.. They feel dull pains in various parts of the body and do not understand why. Or they aio exceed ingly hungry one day and entirely without appetite tho next. This was just the way I felt when the relentless malady which had fastonenrd itself upon me llrst began. Still I thought nothing of it; that probably 1 had taken a rold winch would soon pass n way. Shortly after this I noticed a heavy, and nt times neuralgic, pain in one side of nry heail, but as it would conic ono day and bo gone tho next, 1 paid no attention to it. Then my stomach would get out of order and my food often failed to digest, cauHinK nt times great inconvenience. Vet. i nvpti itu n. nil VMifin ii T did tint. tliinL Mint. Why I should have been so blind I cannot understand! I consulted tho best medical skill in tho laud. 1 visited all the famed mineral springs in America nnd traveled from Maine t , Oilifonilii Still I grow worse. No two physicians agreed as to my malady. One Hiiil I was troubled with spinal irritation, another, dyspepsia; another, heart disense; another, gelienil debility; another, conges tion of tlio base of tho brain; and so on through a long list of common diseases, the symptoms of many of which 1 really had. In tliis way sovcral years passed, during which time I was steadily growing worso. My condition had really become pitiable. Tho slight syinptoms I at first experienced wero developed into terrible nnd constant disorders. My weight had been reduced from 1207 to 130 pounds. My life was a bunion to myself and friends. 1 could re tain no food on my stomach, and lived wholly by injections. I was h living mass of pain. My pulse was uncontrollable. In my agony I frequently foil to tho floor and clutched tho carpet, and prayed for death! Morphine had little or no effect in deadnn ing tlio pain. For six days and nights I had tho deuth-proinonitory hiccoughs con stantly! My water was filled with tube casts and a'liuiuen. I was struggling with flight's disoaso of tho kidneys in its last Btuges! While suffering thus I received a call from my pastor, tho Kov. Dr. Foote, at that limo rector of St. Paul's Kpi.scop.U church, of this city. I felt that it was our last in terview, but in the coursa of conversation COme under his observation. As a practic first day of .Juno, 18S1, and took it ae cording to directions. At first it sickened me; but this I thought was a good sign for one in my debilitated condition. I contin ued to take it; tho sickening sensation do parted and I was finally able to retain food upon my stomach. In a few days I noticed a decided change for tho better, as also did my wife and friends. My hiccoughs ceased and I experienced less pain than formerly. I was so roj uiced at this improved condi tion tlmt, upon what I had believed but a few days boforo was my dying bed, I vowed, In tlio presence of my family nnd friends, (should I recover I would both publicly and privately make known this remedy for tho good of humanity, wherever and whenever I had an opportunity, and this letter is in fulfillment of that vow. My improvement was constant from tlmt time, and in less than threo mouths I had gained liO pounds I.. Jt.w.1. 1 I ui liunu, wecailiu ujiiireij ueu jiuiii imiu unit 1 1 I lIvo I owe my life ami present condi Hon wholly to Wurnor'a safe cure, the rem edy which I used. Since my recovery I hnvo thoroughly re investigated tho subject of kidney diffi culties Rtid IS right's disease, and the truths developed aro astounding. I therefore state, deliberately, anil as a physician, thatlbolievomore than ono-half thodeaths wliich occur in America are caused by might's disease of tlio kidneys. This may Bound liko a rash statement, but I am pre pared to verify it fully. Ilriglit's dlseuse has no distinctive features of its own, (In deed, it often develops without any pain whatever Su tlio kidneys or their vicinity), but has the symptoms of nearly every other common complaint. Hundreds ol people die daily, whose burin's are author ized by a physician's certlllcato us occur ring from 'Heart Disoaso," "Apoplexy," "Paralysis," "Spinal Complaint," "Uheu matism," "Pneumonia," and the other common complaints, when in reality it is from llright's disease of tho kidneys. Few physicians, and fewer people, realize tho ex tent of thU disease or its dangerous nnd Insiduous nature. It steals into the sys tem like a thief, manifests its presence if at (.11 by the commonest symptoms and fastens itself in the constitution before tlio victim is awaro of it. It is nearly oa hereditary as consumption, quite as com mon And fully us fatal. Kntire families, inheriting it from their ancestors, bar died and yet none of the number knew or roallied tho mysterious povror wlilcli was. removing them. Instead of common syin tarns it often shows nono whatever, but brings death suddenly, from convulsions, apoplexy or heart diseasi. As one who has suffered, and known by bitter experience what ho says, I imploro every ono who reads theso words not to neglect the slightest symptoms of kidney diflirulty. No one can afford to hnznrd such chances. I make the foregoing statements based upon facts which I can substantiato to tho letter. Tho welfare of thosn who may pos slhly bo sufferers such as I wns is an amplo inducement for mo to take the step I have, nnd if I can successfully warn others from the dangerous path in which I once walked, I am willing to endure all tho professional nnd personal consequences. .1. 11.
