I ask the publication of the statement that people may be warned be fore it is too late, to Bay to them that there is at hand a means by which they may be restored to perfect health. It is well known to the medical world, and in deed to the laity, that a certain disease is making a terrible havoc ; that next to consumption it is the most fatal, and that when fully developed there is noth ing to be done for the sufferer." Physicians and scientists have long been trying to throw light upon the cause, and if possible, find in nature a medicine for this fatal malady . They have shown, absolutely, that tho blood-purifying or gans of vital importance, are the kidneys, and that when they once fail, the poison which they should take out of the blood is earned by the blood into every part oi the body, developing disease." It is one of those marveLj that we should recall of which we have a right to be proud: but in our pride we should not fail to ascer tain why the Almighty should start us as a nation at the very acme of human ity redeemed, educated, and made grand by the influences of a divine Christianity. Those men were not mere colonists, nor were they limited in their patriotism, "No pent-up me in America is for the Tvpical American. This is a wise provision, as nativity is a primary source of patriotism, and time is necses sary to appreciation. But the native may be a worthless citizen. These men voiced the brotherhood of the race All other declarations prior to this were but for dynasties, or were ethnic at most. Rut those men swept the ho rizon of humanity. These men called forth, as it were, the oncoming centur ies of time, and in their presence de clared that all men are created free and equal. They not only declared the ultimate truthj of human rights, but they ex hausted the right of revolution. They created a constitution founded upon the will of the people, based upon our great declaration of rights, embracing man's inalienable right of life, liberty, and happiness. The instrument which their genius created was left amendable " by the oncoming wants of time, modi fied in subordinate relations which might he suggested by emergencies and the unfolding of our race. Here then are the great fingers of prophecy pointing to our future . And we have been equally favored in our population, wkether we take the untans who landed ia New England, the Dutch who landed in New York, or the English who crowded Maryland and Virginia. They were first-class families. Especially do we 'trace back with pride that glorious genius for lib erty, for intelligence, for devotion man ifested by those heroic men and women who, amid the desolations of a terrific winter landed on a barren rock to transform a vast wilderness, through which tho wild man roamed, into a garden wherein should g-ow the flowers and the fruits of freedom. - We sometimes deprecate the cosn politan character of our population. It is a fact, however, that the best blood of the old world came to us until with in ten years not the decrepit, not the On Tuesday, Feb. 14 the state of Oregon was twenty-eight years of age. She was admitted as a state into the union on February, 14th, 1859, St. Val entine'8 day, and the valentine that this union received on that day has proved to be a valuable one. During twent-eight years of statehood Oregon has advanced steadily. But she is just now entering upon a new era of prosperity and advancement. For many years the people ot this state were comparatively isolated from the great avenues of commerce and trade centers of the world, having but one steamship line leading to any consid erable market But the demands of enterprise and developement have brought competition, and soon this state will be covered with a. net work of competing lines of tranportation, and the products of our generous soil and the wealth of our resources will find markets that will stimulate the hands of industry and set in motion new machinery and inspire new ener gies to the developement of resources in which this country so richly abounds. We are just now entering upon an era when we will do substantial honor to the well chosen motto of our state. "She flies with her own wings" will be an apparent truth when her resources are fully developed. She has the raw materials necessary for the building up cf a great and populous state, and we are steadily advancing to the time when the material will all be utilized. Statesman. my patient to use Warner's safe cure, of which I had heard marvelous results. In his case the result was simply marvel ous, as the attack was a severe one, and development very grave, for an analysis showed per cent, of albumen and granu lar tube casts." The action of the medicine was sing ular and incomprehensible to me. I had never seen anything like it. The patient reco vered pro .nptly, and is to-day a well and healthy man. This stimulated my inquiry into the merits of the remedy and after analysis I found it to be of purely vegetable character, harmless to take under all circumstances." ' Casting aside all professional preju dice, I gave it a thorough trial, as I was anxious that my patient 6houid De re stored to health, no matter by what medicine. I prescribed it in a great variety of cases, Acute, Chronic, Blight's Disease, Congestion of the Kidneys, Catarrah of the Jtiiadder, and in every instance did it speedily effect a cure." For this reason l deem it my duty to give to the world this statement regard ing the value of Warner's safe cure. I make this statement on facts I am pre pared to produce and substantiate. I appeal to physicians oi large practice who know how common and deceptive diseases of tho kidneys are, to lay aside professional prejudice, give their patients Warner's safe cure, restore them to per fect health, earn their gratitude, and thus bo true physicians." " l am satisucd tnat more man one half of the deaths which occur in England are caused, primarily, by impaired action of the kidneys, and the consequent re tention in the blood of the poisonous uric and kidney acid. Having had more than seventeen years experience in my profession, I conscientiously and emphatically Btate that I have been able to give more relief and effect more cures by the use of War ner's safe cure than by all the other medicines ascertainable to the profession, the majority of which, I am sony to say, are very uncertain in their action." "Isn't that a straightforward, manly letter?" " Indeed it is." " Well, but do you know the author has been dreadfully persecuted for writ ing it?" " How so? What has he done to merit it?" "Done? He has spoken the truth ' out of school' and his fellow physicians who want the public to think they have a monopoly in curing diseases, are terri bly angry with him for admitting pro fessional inability to reach certain dis orders." "That letter created a wonderful sen sation among the titled classes and the public. This jarred the doctors terribly. The College of Surgeons and Queen's College, from which institution he was graduated, asked for an explanation of his unprofessional conduct, and notified him that unless he made a retraction they would discipline him." ' The doctor replied that he allowed his patients to make use of Warner's safe cure only after all the regular methods had failed, and when he was satisfied that there was no possible hope for them. Upon their recovery, after hav ing used Warner's safe cure, he was so much surprised that he wrote the above letter to the Family Doctor. He regret- jN. P.
