Rev. J. R. Roberts. The Rev. Mr.

many say that he did some very excel

A remarkable incident occured at

Geo. Dimmick read the declaration doc

thing he said to us was "no country
like Oregon." From what we can
gather from the papers East writing of
Mr. Bellows and giving hi views of
our state, and what we kno.v of the

be a rel able and rafe ret-resentalive of
our country. His meeting with old

I
We publish on ovr first page this
week the report made by Mr. Gilder
sleeve reti ring Chief Engineer of our
fire department. It is worthy the pe
rusal of our City readers and the con
sideration of the Board- of Tiustees.
The hydrant recommended will prove
of great additional security to a large
amount of valuable proterty. The
present Board of Trustees is truly eco
nomical and is laboring to save to the
City every cent they can. This is right
enough but the expenditure of a few
hundred dollars now may prove the
saving of thousands in case of a fire.
we tremble to contemplate the devasta
tion that would follow the burning cf
either of the large Livery stables when
full of hay and no water within reach.
In this connection we feel warranted in
saying that this paper is friendly to
ward bur department and hope to see
such discipline established in both com
panies as will result in efficiency and
good service in moments of demand.
"In times of peace, prepare for war".
Are You Tired of Being Sick!
We wint toasty a word to the men, women
and girls who work iu stores, offices and fac
tories. There are hundreds of thousinds of
you in the country. Very few of you are well.
You are shut up too much and exercise too
little. In this way you are sick. Your blood
is bad, your digestion poor, your head often
aches, you don't feel like work. Your liver,
stomach nd kidneys are out of order. Par
ker's Tonic has cured hundreds of such coses.
It is pure, sure and pleasant.
