The Blaine hat club of Sacramento,
headed the Cleveland torchlight pro
cession in Sacramento a few nights
since, per agreement befcre the elec
tion, and enjoyed the occasion, shoot
ing off fireworks and blowing horns as
energetically as the most enthusiastic
Democrats.
Republican newspapers charge Dr.
BurcLard and hh "Rum, Romanism
and Rebellion" with defeating Blaine,
to all of which the Rev. Dr. replies
that he was only "an unconcious in
strument in the hands ot 'God, to work
out political reform for the people of

tion of a building in East Portland, to
occupied by their stamp quartz mill
and reduction works, which they in

spect, and to prepare for crushing and
i educing the rebellious ores of South

upon which the work of crushing and

yet heard that the election is over, the

subject and learn that the election is

Cincinnati Frauds to be Investigated.
Congress met on Mon lay the first
day of December. On Tuesday the 2d,
Foliett, as a question of privilege, pre
sented the following preamble and
resolution:
"I do impeach Lot Wright, United
States Marshal of th southern district
of Ohio, of high crimes and misde
meanors, I charge him with usurpa
tion of power and violation of law, in
that ha appointed a large number of;
general and special deputy marshals to
serve at several voting piecincts in
Cincinnati, at the election for a mem
ber of Congress, the 14th f Octobwr,
1884, and armed said deputy marshals
with pistols and othsr deadly weapons,
said to hare been furnished by the war
department of the United States gov
ernment; in that the large number of
deputy marshals so appointed and
armed were notorious criminals and
men known of vicious and brutal hab
its and reputation, and many of them
non-residents of Cincinnati and the
state of Ohio; in that said deputy
marshals, acting under his orders and
directions, aided and abetted and en
couraged fraudulent voting, intimida
tion of voters, and gross outrages upon
the elective franchises and rights of
honest voters of the -city, in further
ance uf the interests of a political party
and its candidates. Therefore,
Resolved, That the committee on
expenditures in the department of
justice be required and directed, as
soon as can reasonably be done, to in
vestigate such charges ami report to
this house."
Republican leaders tried to get
around the investigation by filibuster
