Isaac Abbott, the unfortuate member of the Dashaway association, who was ac cidentally shot by Amassa Thayer in San Francisco when he drew a revolver to shoot another member, EdwardFrogsham, with whom he had an altercation, has since died. Thayer will be charged with murder, although he did not kill the man he intended. General W. S. Hancock sat last week for the artist of the New York Eden Musee for a life-sized wax figure of himself, to be included in a group representing "The Abolition of Slavery in the United States." The central figure will be Abraham Lin coln, with a female slave, from whose ankles the shakles have fallen, kneeling by his sida, while Generals Hancock, Grant, Sherman and Butler will form the background. Green, says St, Jacobs Oil, the great pain -conqueror, cured him of pains in the head, and also of frosted feet. CATARRH. A clergyman in Newbern. Ala., who had suffered with Nasal Catarrh for nearly twenty vears, after using Compound Oxygen for four months, reports himself cured. He says : ily Catarrh, which teas tn the form of an ulcer in my head, and on which dark green scabs constantly formed, and which had existed for eighteen or twenty years, is gone. To any one who has studied the laws of life, and especially those which relate to reproaucuon, an experience sucn as we are about to relate, will come with special force and interest. The transmission of certain mental traits of prominence and of certain physical traits of equal prom inence, are facts which all acknowledge, but which none can understand. The father may be distinguished, the son, an imbecile; or, the parent may be decrepit and unknown, and the child achieve the highest place possible to humanity. But through it all, there will be certain char acteristics, which mark the individual as descending from certain ancestors. loo often, indeed, these characteristics are in- nrmities and often ot a physical nature. These facts were strikingly brought out during a conversation which a representa tive of this paper recently had with Mrs. Carrie D. T. Swift, who is the wife of one of our most prominent citizens. The lady related that she inherited from her parents ceitain tendencies, over which she had no control, and which were in the nature of blood difficulties, assuming the form of rheumatism. Her experience can best be described in her own words. To the writer she said : .
