Attention, Democrats! The chairman of the Democratic cen tral committee for DougTas county, has onlled a meeting of the same for the '5tb of this month. Eaf-h precinct is entitled (o a representative and it is must desirable that proxies should be the exception and not the rule. Let every product have pride enough to Bee this t the uulegato is here. There is much to consider and much to do and the importance of the situation justifies prudent attention. Douglas county ia not positively one way or the other, but on the contrary there is a large indi vidualized rote th-t thinks for itself and doea as it pleases. To that element the Democracy should make prope r and wise overtures. There is no uscy nor is there sense in trying to character!"? our local p-iTuirs with national politics Fact is Douglas 'county neither divided nor united the Union, and has quite enough to do to mind its own busiuess. Democrats, at 'l'jiition! - Garfield's Assassination- In"a private con versacion with Con gressman Springer, ex-Postmastfrf Gen eral James said he had noloubt but what Garfield would have been alive to-day if it had not been far the star route prosacutipns, and that he believed that there was a general plot, not only to kill the President, but also' the . at. turney general and the postmaster gen oral. William A. Cook being asked what he had to say regarding the state ment mad by James before Springer's committee relative to his prediction of Garfield's afisawsintttion, replied, "The statement is fullof inaccuracies, but in the course of an interview with Gar field I did take occasion toward the close of the talk to give him a" general warning.
