" Fred Douglas, the colored orator, ha3 created quite a sensation by marrying a white woman. The leading colored citizens denounce the marriage as an unholy alliance. In order to secure an audience sheaunounced by a ten-cent handbill that certain promi nent gentlemen of the city, among whom were Sol. Abraham, George W. Kimball, Hon. W. P. Owens, Hon. L. P. Lane, W. F. Benjamin, Hon. Binger Hermann, Judge C. Gaddis, and E. G Hursh of the Plaindealcr, would be , present and join in the discussion of the question. As tha result of the ad vertisement the court house was well filled. Mrs. Dunniway opened the meeting, not with prayer, but with a curtain lecture, and before resuming her seat called upon ex-Senator Owens Fie m had fortunately received a tele gram which called him away at the right time. W. F. Benjamin was not bo fortunate. He arose with a face wreathed in smiles and announced him self in favor of the movement. He had evidently prepared himself for a great oratorical effort, and soared aloft, but lost himself in the tenth century in a little village beneath the snow capped peaks of Anpenines. We have not learned whether the men who were . sent in search of him have yet returned. Messrs. Hermann, Fullerton, Strange, and J. W. Hamilton were called upon, but they had all received telegrams and were not present.
