The raiu was sufficient to settle the black mud. People from all parts of the county are in the city attending county court. Some hare business, others want to make business. Messrs. Buick and Chad wick of Myrtle Creek, looking after tho interests of their p rt of the county, are in the city. The social dance at Wilbur was a grand success and the most enjoyable entertain-' mcnt of the kind that has taken place in the little town of Wilbur for 28 years. ! The second qnarterly meeting for the cur rent conference year, M. E. church, will De bt Id at the church in this place, commenc ing on Saturda;.', January 19, 1SS4, and con tinue over the Sabbath. A. A. Fink, who is engaged in the cattle business in eastern Oregon, but who has been shopping at his old home in Koseburg for the winter, made a hnnied trip to Port land last Tuesday, We presume be went below to contract for ea't for his calves. The Supreme court on Monday decided the Portland hiuhdicense case, Judges Lord and Watson holding in favor of the license and Judge Waldo against it. There arc'125 mora cases where the salooukceiwrs refused to pay the license and were each fined an amount equal to the license. These cases wilt all abiu the decision of the test case. Henry Villard made an assignment on the fifth iust., to Win. Eudicott Jr. of Boston, and Horace White of New York, for the benefit of creditors. The trouble with Vil lard wa3 he lived beyond his means and gave away more than he possessed. It is reported that his health has given away beneath the crash and that he is now a physical wreck. The new ferry boat at the Cole3 valley fer ry, which was on the dock in course of con struction, was carried away by the recent freshet in the river. Mr. S. 0. Emory has contracted with C'arke & Baker for lumber to build a new bent, which will be completed and ready to accommodate the public in a snort time.
