That the Republican members will almost unanimously sec-; ond the administration in this gigantic ndle, is to be expected; but it is to hopod that the Democratic majority in the house will interfre on behalf of the people and prevent all such swind ling legislation. ' ' u " The Credit System- The credit system upon which the business of our country has been trans acted for so many years, is a false prin ciple of business and manifestly unjust to the great jaass of laboring people It serves the capitalist As a level to re duce the ieal value of the wages which the laborer recedes just in the ratio that the floating credit of the country bears to the mony in circulation. Tho precious metals which aro used as the standard of values in all civil ized countries are dug from the earth which we inhabit, and are coined for the benefit of the people and belongs to them. When unrestricted by legis lation it will circulate freely through the natural avenues of trade, and serve the purpose for which it is coined. When money is plenty wo have what we call cooa times: the laborer is promptly paid his wages, and the arti san nd mechanic are enabled to meet their obligations. "When money is close we have hard time?, the poor man is unable to pay lis debts, his family are curtailed in their expenses, trade diminishes, fol lowed by the closing of industries, la bor strikes and financial failures. This is not caused by reason of there being any less money in the country, but by its being retired from circula tion and locked up in the government vaults and private coders, while a false credit upon which the people pay interest is floated in its stead. A law which takes from the people their raoney and locks it up in iron vaults is no better thau open robbery, and a party which will enact and up hold such a system of legislation it more dangerous when in power than the freebooter on the high seas or the brigand on our public highways. That such is the policy of the Re publican party ia manifest by its pub lic acts, and the financial throes and la bor strikes we have passed through fpce if came into power ia proof pos itive tuac tner is lomeunng raaicauy wronj?, when we consider that tho bal ance of trade has been in our favor and that our mines have produced mora of the precious metal during the time, than in any other ago of the world's history. VnxAito Resigns. Henry Viliard bas re signed the presidmcy of the Oregon Trans continental and the Oregon Kail way and Navigation company. The reason assigned for the resignation, Villard says, is that he became impressed with the conviction that it would not bo prope r for him to continue as president of all tho companies whose ruan agementhe has heoetofore directed, after completion of the Northern Pacific. W Endlcott Jr. of Boston, succeeds him in the former company and Xv Jetlerson Coolidge as pr8ident of the latter. It is also ru mored that Villard intends to withdraw from the Northern Pacific. W. C.
