Mrs. Sarah Cauthorn has returned- from a pleasant visit to her son in Portland. J. L. Underwood and children of Lebanon visited friends in this city last Sunday. Fred Roth, an OAC student, class of '05, was visiting friends in the city last week. Miss Hazel Kyle, of Albany, -was visiting friends in Corvallis Friday and Saturday. Miss Ada Barringer has gone to Portland and may remain per manently in that city. County Clerk Victor P. Moses snent a couple of days over in Linn county last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Maxfield were in the cuy last Monday from northern Benton. Mrs. J. Mason was taken seri- ouslv ill last Friday and is now threatened with pneumonia. V, R. Hand, the Albany arch itect, was looking after business rinterests in Corvallis Friday. A. C. Woodcock, the Belle fountain merchant, was a busi ness visitor in the city Saturday. Elmer Dinges will make his future home at Shedds, he hav ing moved to that place last week. Mrs. M. S. Woodcock was the guest of her brother at Albany during a brief visit there last week. Mrs. Robert Buchanan has as !her guest her sister, Mrs. Imsley, from over in the eastern part of the state. Fifteen miles of track of the C. & A. R. R. have been laid and the road is now constructed near ly to Monroe. Mrs. I. Jackson, residing in Wilkin's addition, is being visit ed by her sister, Mrs. Tomare, from Portland. Miss Gladys, the little daugh ter, of E. J. Newton, had one of her fingers badly crushed while playing last week, A wagon load of hogs for the Corvallis markets was brought in by Orrin AVatkins, of Belle fountain, last week. Misses Alice, Laura and Viola Newman of Bellefountain came in Sunday and will remain in Corvallis during the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hammel, well known to Corvallis people, haye returned from an extended eastern trip to their home m Albany. Mrs. A. W. Herbert and her daughter, Miss Bessie, left last Thursday to join Mr. Herbert at Ashland, where the family will reside in future. Miss Anna Dodge, who is at tending the Corvallis High School, spent last Saturday and Sunday at the home of her par ents in Monroe. Mrs. J. C. Clark returned to her home in Portland last Wed nesday after a visit to her par ents', Mr. and Mrs. George Ful ler, in this city. A splendid display of apples is being made in the show win dows of the Toggery by Frank Groves, a well known fruit grow er of this section. Rev. Father Jujek, S. D. S., who was stationed at Corvallis for many years, is now in the city from Los Angeles, visiting Rev. Father Butler. ' Allen Clark is down . from Monmouth looking for a busi ness location in this city. While here he is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Savage. Will Horning returned last Sunday from Kings Valley. He was accompanied by Mrs. Horn ing who had been visiting rela tives in that vicinity. R. E. Lafferty, of Portland, spent several days with his father and brothers here last week, leaving on Sunday eve ning for San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. L. Stanns, of Colville, Wash., are visiting in Corvallis, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Woodcock and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Savage. Among the Corvallis visitors to Albany last week were Leslie Davis, E. Pitts, George White side, Samuel Whiteside and Mes daines Charles Dennick and George Davis. A debate has been arranged at the college this week on the con solidation of rural school dis tricts which will certainly make a very interesting- discussion. This question is receiving much attention from leading educators and parents are beginning to realize that in sparsely settled communities and a light attend ance at school it is impossible for the teacher to grade the classes.
