His wife must ba pretty comfortably fixed by now. Mrs. Ohio, the mother of Pres idents, is reported to be doing very well, thank 'you. The child weighs 321 electoral votes or more, and is also doing well. Elihu Root seems to be slated by the Republicans, for United States Senator, to succeed Torn Piatt. Mr. Root is considered a very able man and will greatly relieve the Empire State of the odium cast upon it by Piatt and Depew. - Charles P. Taf t, half brother of the President-elect, is mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed Senator Foraker. Charles P. Taft is a very able man and his newspaper is' an important factor in Ohio politics, . If Charley is looking after senatorial bees the boys will rear the flutter of his wings while he is making honey. The Roosevelts, father , and son, cannot break into deepest Africa and kill everything in sight. In the first place they must obtain a license to shoot at all. It is fair to say, however, that the British colonial office tendered a special permit, con ferring on him the freedom of the game preserves, but he pre ferred to enter the wilderness like any other American and be governed by the rules of the game without . fear or favor. What he can shoot is clearly set forth, and while he may be able to secure all that the license calls for, he can shoot no more than the objects named, which are two male elephants, two rhinoce ri, 10 hippopotami, 21 antelopes, including two kudes,' two gem bok, one bongo, two earth dogs, two earth wolves, vift musk deer, two colobi or f ur ; monkeys, two marshbon storks, two ostriches' two egre, and ; one. 'chimpanzee. This ought to "afford variety enough, and if he succeeds, in filling the bill he can "write some thing about African game that will give the nature fakirs cold chills. - CONSOLATION IN DEFEAT. The Alton Iowa Democrat offers consolation to the demo cratic brethren as follows : Don't be discouraged and stand around like a blue heron with one leg frozen in a swamp. It doesen't pay to cry all over your cavalry boots as Xerxes did and spoil your shine. Neither does it pay to whoop 'er up too extensively over victory. The world nearly always moves right along the same as ever whether you get your crust busted or. bust the other fellow's. You will hear the birds warble the same as ever if you didn't 'get both ears chewed off in the melee. : The flowers will smell just as sweet provided your proboscis wasn't un jointed. Provided both eyes are not knocked into one you can still see frost gems on the win dowand the sun will shine just the same. In any event you will be dead in 100 years and the other fellow will be just as dead. Don't make any fuss over victory or defeat. Life is too short. Do what you think you are called up on to do as a man and as the boy said in the arithmetic class the result will be the result. After its all over get shaved and sew on the buttons and start anew.
