Kyle of Albany, a former Corvallis lady, was the guest Wednesday of Mrs. Sam .Kerr in this city. John Kiger and family have Troved to the island where they will camp for the summer and attend to the crops on the farm. Among the U. S. pensions re cently granted two are for Cor vallis people, Mary A. Hemphill and Frances F. Wilcox-$12 each per month. Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Bagley re turned to their home at Suver the first of the week, after a brief -visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Aldrich. Albert Tedrow, who has been -employed as electrician in the Portland car shops, came up the first of the week for a three weeks' visit at home. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Taylor, Mrs. Janet Smith and Jim Wheeler have gone to the Ya chaats country, where they will camp and fish for two weeks. Mrs. Fred Clark goes to Port land, Monday, as a delegate from the local lodge to the Grand Lodge of the Degree of Honor. She will be absent nearly all the week. Henry Hammersley returned to his home in Alsea, Tuesday, having been in Corvallis in con nection with the county clerk contest case which was up before the circuit court. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ireland vacated the Miss Pauline Kline house on Third street, Tuesday, and will spend about six weeks visiting their children near Cor vallis and their three sons in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hunter and family and Mrs. T. S. Hand saker departed Tuesday for Wal la Walla, to reside. Rev. Hand saker follows in a short time. Many friends of both families regret the departure. It is estimated by one of the parties who was present that and wife at Marshfield. S. K. Hartsock oi the Graham & Wells pharmacy returns today from a business visit in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Karsten have been visiting Newport on their wedding trip, since "Mon day. Robert Berger and wife and James Tedrow and wife started Wednesday for Yachaats for a several weeks' camp. Miss Effie Kiger, formerly of Corvallis, is now in Seattle with relatives. She left Corvallis the first of June for Portland. I "The Indwelling Spirit" will be the subject of Rev. Handsak er's discourse at the Christian church next bunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Woodcock are to move into the residence vacated this week by Rev. and Mrs. T. S. Handsaker on Seventh street. Mark Rickard went to Port land Tuesday to purchase another automobile, having sold all he had previously brought to this city. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Long and Mr. and Mrs. George Cooper ex pect to leave tomorrow for a ten days' camping trip in the Big Elk country. Jesse D. Starns arrived Wed nesday from Prineville for a vis it with his mother in Corvallis and other relatives in Benton county. Rev. Evan P. Hughes, pastor of the Congregational church, will preach at the union meetingi Call, of Kirksville, Mo.,'left Mon day for Yachaats to join the rest of the family in a several weeks Monday, by automobile. Simpson pheasant "ranch" in the western part of town, where 1500 little pheasants are hatched and hatching. Tommy Bilyeu, an old Cor vallis boy who is now a prosper ous business 'man of Portland, has been visiting his father here this week and renewing old friendships. Richard Kiger and family are to move shortly from their ranch home to Mrs. Minerva Kiger's house jhst north of the public school building. Fallass and daugh ter, Miss Florence, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, are visiting for a few weeks with Miss Nancy Campbell, in Jobs addition. There was a pleasant meeting of the W. H. M. S. of the M. E. church, Wednesday afternoon, at the 1 ome of M. s. Ed. Felton, in Jobs addition. An interesting program and refreshments were the features. S. L. Kline has been in Port land the past few days, where he attended a big picnic at Bonne ville, Wednesday, given by the Retail Grocers i and Merchants' Association. Mr. Kline is presi dent of the state association. John Piper is building a dan dy little concrete milk and fruit house on his place, on College hill. Houses of that material should certainly be far superior to wooden structures, and Mr. Piper's lead may be followed by others. Born, in Wenatchee, Wash., July 10th, to Mr. and Mrs. John Gellatly, a daughter. The par ents are well known in Corvallis where they formerly resided, Mr. Gellatly having been county re corder for several years. Many old friends in this city extend congratulations. Mrs. Lucy Francisco, who went to Fayette, Iowa, a few weeks ago for a visit with friends, has been sending numerous pictures of the recent storms in that sec tion to relatives and friends in Corvallis. Place this over an ordinary pitch er, filled with ice water, making it deep enough to rest on the table so as to exclude the air, and you will be astonished to see the length of time that the ice will keep and the water remain cold after the ice has melted. . Iltf J The home of Senator and Mrs. A. J. Johnson was the scene of a delightful social affair, Tuesday evening, when Misses Cleo and Zeta Johnson entertained in honor of Miss Maybelle Keady. The affair was a miscellaneous shower, and all sorts of pretty and useful gifts were received by the honor guest. Social conver sation was interspersed with ex cellent vocal solos by Miss Nelle Marvin, Miss Maybelle Keady and Miss Juanita Davis, and light refreshments .were served.
