The democratic press is very
busy just now trying to have the
paople believe two things: First,
that the President and the lead
ers ot the republican party are
at serious variance
every public
that W. J. Bryan and Roosevelt
hold, practically, to the same
principles and policies.
Concerning the first, what are
the facts? In the senate a few
republican senators, believed to
be under the control of certain
great corporations, opposed the
efforts of their own party in that
body, acting in harmony with
the President, to control these
corporations. In their efforts
they had the active and persist
ent aid of the democratic minor
ity. Instead of being opposed
by the leaders of the party the
President has met only the op
position of the corporations he
sought to control and that of an
"obstructive democratic minority
engaged in playing very cheap
politics. The same conditions
prevail in the house, with this
exception; there the republican
majority is so great that it is

velt are not under any sort of

warehouses, and other agencies
of supply and distribution.
This is not republican doctrine..
neither is it good American doc
trine. These are identical. Cor.'
trol, government control in the
interests of the whole people, of
everj?thing which menaces their
prosperity, their happiness,
neaita and lite wmch may not
otherwise be controlled by them
selves, this is the doctrine of
the republican party. A republi
can president in harmony with
the whole party is demonstrating
to the satisfaction of the Amer
ican people that control is en
tirely feasible. "Teddy is mak
ing good."
