Paul, so long connect ed with the Gazette, and one of the best-known citizens of this c ty, has been chosen to fill the c iair of Expression atd Dramatic Art in the' Western Academy of Music, Elocution, Oratory and Dramatic Art. This is the in stitution where another distin guished artist of this city has been added to the corps of teachers, Mr. Mordaunt Gbodnough. who has charge of the Piano Depart ment. This institution was establish ed in Portland about five yeirs ago, and is now recognized as the leading establishment of the kind on the Pacific coast. Roscoe, of Florence, one of the best and molt comfortably furnished of the ocean going tugs en the' Pacific Coast, baa arrived at Yaquina Bay for the SPason and will do all kinds of work on the bay, such as transporting passengers, toning ships, etc. The L. Roscoe will ' make regular trips' over the Yaquina bar during the outing sea son on Sundays, and visitors to Newpoit, especially those going on the regular Sunday excursions, can enjoy the de lights of a trip over the bar onto the broad Pacific. " - Oregon Development League. The Portland Commercial Club has issued a call for a convention of the Ore gon Development League, to be held at the Marquam Grand Theater in Port land August 2 and 3. All commer cial, agricultural, mining, stock-raising and irrigation interests will be repre sented ; every editor in the Btate will be invited to attend aa a delegate; county commissioners andmiyorsof all towns and cities will also be called upon to name delegates. The Portland Women's Club will look after the comfort of ladies accompanying delegates, and, among other entertainments, have ar ranged a trolley ride on August 2, taking in the most interesting and beautiful en virons of Portland, and on August 3 ten street cars will be previded for a trip over the entire city.
