ME COBVALUS- GAZETTE: Tuesdays and Fridays, ' The Argonaut says: "The Democracy is not a party. It is aconelomerous conglomeration of deafening discordances." ,wnewi 1U Bryan is supporting the Demo cratic Presidential candidate en thusiastically. He says "the Republican platformds the equal the most vital and important issues, and that the nomination of the Democratic candidate for President of the United States was achieved by. crooked and in defensible methods." Truly a friend in need is a friend indeed. - . Tne Kussian war steamer at. And Just How Business Men . - Can Get It: In soite of all the , talk about hard times, dull seasons, and gen eral business stagnationsr it often happens that individual - enter pise is quickly emulated by " oth-s ers until the whole business world is in active motion again. One bold advertiser can start a crowd of others advertising,' ixecause they have to in order to protect their trade. ; We have cases in mind on this point. The in stinct of self protection teaches them that if they wish to hold their trade they must counteract the effects of the new firm's ad vertising. ' Farmers from Philo math and Alsea pass right through Corvallis and buy large quanti ties of supplies in Albany, simply because the advertising literature of the firm patronized keeps pouring into the hands of the con sumer. - This . is . a lesson that should be laid well to heart by praters about "hard times" and "dull seasons." Say what you will, enterprise is contagious. It only needs "one bolder than the rest to set the pace and the others are sure to follow, must follow, in fact. Try it and see. The stores will be - crowded, money will be spent, extra sales people will be needed, and things gen erally will improve in spite of your prophesies about the dull summer season and your fears that Parker may be elected. All this goes to prove that bad times can be made better right here and now by hustling, by creating trade, by energy, activity and judicious advertising in the Ga zette. We have always con tended that many merchants are responsible for their own dull sea sons. L'et us give you a little good live advertising and see. Ice cream $1.25 per gallon at Small & Son's. "Yes," admitted the elder, "but it' hard to say whether he gets his defini tion from the slang dictionary or the regular one." Chicago Post. Philadelphia. Girls.
