Min Ma Ctalnery Houses Centered la Portland as Headquarters for tbe Northwest. : There is nothing of which Portland is more roud than the gieat agricul tural implement houses that make their headquarters for the Northwest in this city. Among the first of . these is the Advance Thresher Company, which has built a fine warehouse and offices on the East side at Second and Belmont streets. Mr. J. 0. Humphrey is the manager in charge of the com pany's splendid business in this sec tion, and he ' is now in the thick of spring activity at his - commodious quarters. The threshermen are just now look ing saarpiy aiier new equipment ana necessary repairs and renovations for the coming season, and no one omits calling at the Advance establishment if he seeks to inform himself fully as to the market and advantages of the various threshing outfits. In fact a visit to the agricultural and saw mill machinery manufacturers houseB on the East side is a liberal education to any one who wants to get a fair idea of the vast farmer interests of this part of America. Immense capital is invested in these concerns. . They sell largely on credit, and when times are prosperous an enormous amount of machinery is sold and paid for. They are the thermome ter of the advancement and prosperity of the great Northwest. The factory and principal place of business of the Advance Threshing Company is at Bat tle Creek, Michigan. Two years ago they came into Portland, and now they re doing business with the most ac tive . and. influential people in their lines.
