citizens. What enect: will it
have on these proposed additions

taxing cf mortgages will drive
these people away, and send our
best citizens from , home. - Many
of them have already gone, still
holding securities in the county,
knowine that a' morteasre tax
cannot reach a non-resident,
while many or our newcomers
are waiting -an opportunity to
get away. In the city of Cor-
vallis. taxes are four and a halt
per cent. this leaves but one
and one-half per cent for the
mortgagee to live upon. Do
you want to populate your coun
ty? Or are "you blind? This
state of affairs cannot be kept
from - the public. There are
those among us that will ' send it
forth. It is a matter of justice
to the proposed, newcomer that
this proposed taxing of mort
gages should be known. It is
right the puolic should know
what to expect if residence in
Beaton county or Uorvalus, is
