ALL RECORDS BROKEN.
The fiscal year ending J ?i,ne 30,
1903, witnessed the - nieate-a acr
tivity in the history of ()rpon in
the settlement and sale of pub
lic lands. The number of en
tries, the amount of lauds dis
posed of, the cash receipts from
sales, combined with fees and
commissions collected at local
offi.es-break all records. , The
enormous aggregate of funds de
rived from sales, commissions
and fees during the- period was
$2,655, 330. Thesa returns mean
that Oregon contributed in the
neighborhood of $2,000,000 to
the reclamation fund or twice as
mHch as the state contributed
in the two years preceding, when
it turned in more than $900,000.
The reclamation fund gets all
cash receipts, with the exception
of money fer expenses of the
land service, and the hve per
cent diverted te educational pur
poses.
During 1902, there were 11,
792 entries in Oregon, covering
1,297,099 acres of land, while
the year just ended nas a record
of 18,744 entries, embracing a
total area of 1,844,697 acres.
Although figures, so tar as
available, do not classify the en
tries made in Oresron. the fact
that over 18,000 new entries are
reported is the best evidence that
Oregon is attracting settlers in
ao small numbers, and home
builders and citizens of the de
sirable class are seeking out the
state where they can establish
homes under the most favorable
circumstanoes. Tkere is a guar
antee that the new settlers are
desirable citizens from the very
fact that all entries, particularly
those of the first half of the year,
were most carefully examined to
determine whether the entrymen
were acting in good faith and in
their own interests, rather than
in the interests of others.
SERVED HIS COUNTRY WELL.
When Secretary of War Root
retires from the cabinet next
January, that body will lose one
of its most distinguished mem
bers. While his relations with
the present ! administration have
been most cordial, four years of
arduous public service has made
demands that have told upon
even so rugged a constitution as
he possesses. More than this,
his duties as a member of the
Alaska boundary tribunal will
necessitate his presence in Eng.
land for an indefinite period.
"I shall carry with rae un
abated loyalty to your adminis
tration, confidence in the sound
conservatism and patriotic un
felfish&ess of your policy and en
during gratitude for the kind
ness and consideration with
which your friendship has hon
ored me. I shall not cease to
appreciate the . sympathy and
loyalty to President McKinley
with which you took and car
ried on . his work and I shall
always be bappy to have been a
part of the administration direct
ed by your "'sincere and rugged
adherence to right and devotion
to the true interests of the coun
try." These are the concl uding words
of Secretary Root's letter to the
President, and, th latter, never
given to flattery, pays this high
tribute to his retiring Secretary
of War: '
"We never had a public ser
vant of the Government who has
worked harder than vou have
worked during these tour years
and a half, and this not merely
in point of time, but above all
in point of intensity, and your
success has been equal to your
labors. The only reward you
have had or can have is the
knowledge of your successful
athievement, of the performance
in the fullest fashion of a great
pftblic duty, the doing of which
was of vital importance to the
Nation's welfare. . : -,
"May all good fortune attend
you , whereyer . you are; the
American people wish yo well
and appreciate to the full the
debt due you for all that
have doneJn their behalf."

Kw Cure for Diseases of Men.
Scientific investigation, supplemented
bj experience, has shown that urinary
diseases are more prevalent and destruc
tive to life, health and happiness than
aay other class known to tbe medical
fraternity. They sure not confined to
the low and degraded portions of human
ity, as many suppose, but are to be
found among tbe pure of heart, the in
nocent,, the truly pious and the wealthy.
; Many of them are. transmitted from
parents to children, from generation to
generation. Thousands of people Buffer
untold agonies from their ravaging
effects, and meet an early and untimely
death, often ignorant of the cause.
Though transmitted innocently, the
efffCtB of thote diseases are not the less
errible. It in h eiil ttutli lt the Intio-
:ent are often greater stid'erer tlmh Hie
guilty.
0 all the uian of itij olv fe htm
more important IIjhh those nisjageu iw
the urinary fiiuetiun". In per o:t health
that great blessing which so few en
joy one will scarcely direct a moment's
thought, to these important organs, and
at the first unpleasant symptom,, good
advice, such as may easily be obtained,
should be immediately solicited.
Anions the chief and most commwn
mon diseases is semipal weakness ana
nervous debility, or loss of nerve power.
Thousands ef young; and middle-aged
men suffer with nervous diseases for
years, and may be ignorant ot the
causes when a little timclj' advice would
make life's pathwsy full of cheer and
happiness. When the first symptonus
of seminal weakness manifest themselves
th sufferer is noticed to become dull
and morose, and is troubled wi.h indi
gestion though the appetite may remain
good. But the strength vanishes and
the patient grows thin. He becomes n
doient ana aeoiutatea, ana loss ot mem
ory ana all vigor ot the sexual organs
may follow. In time he may fall into
a complete state of impotency total loss
of sexual power. Among its terrible
effects may be mentioned weakness of
memory, confusion of ideas, nervous de
epondency and general weakness. The
pale face, the sunken eye, that downcast
countenance, the stooping aged form
all serve to announce the victim's trou
Dies. It seldom kills of itself, but it
opens the gate to other diseases, such as
consumption and diseases of the heart
The unfortunate sufferer cannot sleep in
that immediate state, between life and
death, intended for the . recuperation of
the mind and body, he can know no rest,
for his dreams are dark and foreboding,
and the constant drain' upon the system
robs it of its vital fluid .
This affliction may be the result of
seu-aDUse or the result ot excesses in
mature 3 ears, As ''man is but a bubble
of habits," how essential that he should
start right in life; that his mind should
be full of sublime thought aud pure con
ceptions. All of you who suffer from
this disease should lose no time in con
sulting Dr. Darrin, for the time may
come when you will be beyond all med
ical skill.
No matter what you have taken, or
who has failed to cure yon, call and see
the doctor, as he can permanently, safely
and privately cure yon in one-half the
time and at one-half the expenses re-
1 quired by others.

Siok stock or poultry should not
eat cheap stock food any mora than
sick persons should expect to be
