The ticket selected by the re publicans of Benton county, through their representatives in convention assembled, contains the names of men - of standiag in the community, qualified to per form trie duties of th office to v.;Mi sorli asnires. worths of nun- r. . Vi cnntwirf of everv voter. This ;c all that is claimed for them. The ticket is not a slate; was not dictated by any boss. The candidates are all worldly men; men of affairs. They claim no attributes of deitv. They are earth-born; not children of the skies. No halo encircles their brows; their garments are not mae of snow. A cood hat, and rlothes. nart wool and something less than a yard wide, rmrehased from our local mer chants, releases them better and is more becoming. No, gentlemen, the Benton Potmtv Reoublican ticket is not romnosed of seraphs nor cheiu hims. Thev were drawn from rh rants of the voters of the county, and are regarded as rep re?entative men who will honest ly and capably administer the offices to which they are elected. Thatisll. PASSED BY THE HOUSE. The plank in the platform pro mulgated bv the republican state convention relating to this sub ject is what we had a right to expect, an insistant demand that congress pass the liitchell-Kahn PYrlnsion bill. All parties, es pecially on the1 Pacific coast, favor such legislation. Formerly the measure was be lieved. in the eastern states, to be merely one of local character relating mainly to tne racinc states, and largely the expression of racial preiudice and political demagogy. More intelligent and correct views now -prevail. In spite of a few sentimental hu manitarians and religious enthu siasts such as General Howard the people east and west regard unrestricted Chinese immigra tion as pregnant with grave dan gers to our social life and ulti trifltelv debauchine our whole national life, physically, morally, religiously and politically. The people of the East now admit that we of the Pacific coast having been lonff in close contact with Chinese immigrants have had oc cular demonstration ot tne de moralizing, baneful influences of such immigration, and so are I better qualified to determine what measures are required to deal with the whole subject. j Much of this changed attitude of public sentiment in the Atlan tic and Gulf states is due to the efforts of senators and representa tives in congress from the west ern states. Most conspicuous of these is our own Senator Mitch ell. His recent speech before the senate in support of the exclusion bill was a careful and thorough analysis of its provisions, a com plete portrayal of the evils sure to attend the admission of large numbers of Chinese as learned from actual observation, and an eloquent and earnest appeal to the patriotism of the senate I to enact the bill. Nothing more could have been said nor said more effectively.! The bill, with amendments making it yet more drastic, has passed the house by a handsome majority. It remains to be seen what the senate may do with these, but there can be little doubt the bill will become a law. Organized labor demands the legislation and there appears to be little real opposition to the measure in either house. Real Estate Transfers. C L & I S Co to H Nelson, 13 acres near Wrea; $50. John Mills to W E Albin, 2 Vv. battle : Thus he spoke, and Agamemnon king of men did not disobey him; (I rat) at once ordered clear-voiced heralds to sum mon the long-haired Achaeana to an as sembly. Thefornier heralded, the latter verv Quickly assembled. . And the sen of Atreus and his attendants, the Zeus nourished kings, rushed madly (hither and thither) arranging them, and the bright eyed Athena among them, holding the precious shield, ever new and im perishable, from which a hundred tas sels all Bold float, all veil-plaited and each worth a hecatomb (i. e. a hundred cattle). With this (the shield) she, flash inn forth here and there, rushed through the people of the Achaeans urg iog them to go, and she infused strength into the heart of each (one) (strength) to unceasLnelv war and fight Now to them immediately became 8eeter than to re turn home in the hollow ships to their dear native land. As a destructive fire consumes a vast forest on the summit of a mountain, and the brightness shines afar, so the eleam from the devine ar mor of these, as they are advancing, all Bhiaing through the npper air, reach heaven. And of these, as numerous flocks if flying birds, geese, cranes, long necked swans, on the Asian meadow, on both sides of the streams of Kayster, here and there flying, sporting with their wines, while thev alight with a loud noise, ana tne meadow resounas, so nu merous tribes of these (the Achaeans) rusbed forth from ships and from tents to the Scamandrian Plain, and the erround resound terribly under the feet both of them ( the men) and of the noraes Now countless numbers, as many as the leaves and flowers in their season, halted on the flowery meadow of the Scaman- der. As numerous swarms of clustering flies which continually hover about the sheep cote in the season of 6pring, when milk overflows the pans, so numerous were the long hatred Achaeans who, rushing impetuously (to Wtles) against the Tro jans, took their fctand pn the plain tsi tear them to pies. And , these, ws' the herdsman easily separate the scattered herds of goats, when thev mingle in the pasture, so did the commanders divide aad arrange them here and there (in companies) to go to battle, and among them king Ag amemnon as to his eyes aad head re sembling Zeus the wielder of the thun derbolt, as to bis waist (resembling) Mart, and as to his breast (resembling) Poseidon (See Hamlet 3:4.55 ff). As in the herd the bull is'greatly distinguished above all, for he is pre-eminent among collected cattle; such on that day did Zeus make the son of Atreus-Kiistinguish- ed among many and pre-eminent among warriois On this first appearance these simple, effective shirt waists were nailed with instant enthusiasm. Every woman ad mirea uie uyui, smartly-cut, well-fitting shirt waist tnat snecouw uy reauy without trouble, at little expense, and conld look well and feel com fortable in ; and wanted to posess one or more of them.
