IS MIR MEnt. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1900 j I i ; ! Eor President: ILLIAMMcKINLEY ofOHio. For Vice-President: THEODORE ROOSEVELT of New York. Fjr Presidential Electors. TILMON fORD.- Marion County J. O. FULLERTON Douglas County W. J. FURNISH Umatilla County O F PATTON Multnomah County KNOWS IT ALL. The egotistical young gentle man who harranged at the court house Thursday evening seemed much perturbed over the follow ing squib from the GAZETTE ot the 2ird inst. As it was the only thing in the understanding rf man that he didn't profess to know all about, we hasten to ex nlftin and clothe him him with Jr 7 , ommsoience: "We read that one of the Ore eon boys who served in the Philippines will have something tn tav at the court house next Thursday evening relative to the abortive attempt of Genera Summers to stampede the volun taers into support of McKinley It will be unnessary to say any thitio- about Col. Bryan's at tempt to stampede the entire American army in the interest of Aguinaldo. Everyone is fam iliar with that." Mr. Bryan has declared so often, that he has come to be lieve it himself, that if elected president, he will immediately convene congress in extra session with tha purpose of hurrying our army out? of blie Philippines. This hurried flight or stampede of our entire army from the Is lands, will be directly in the in terest of Aguinaldo, the self constituted dictator, and dire ful itt its results to his misguid ed followers. Mr. Bryan is mak ing fcvary effort o this end, and w sooke advisedly when we said he was attempting to stam pede our army in the interest of Aguinaldo. When Mr. banders reads this he will know it all, and the world will see what it never beheld before, omni science clothed in swaddling oloths. NO HOPE FOR BRYAN. The Eugene Journal, whose edi tor H. R. Kincaid, profetses an ar dent belief in the success of Mr. Bryan at the polls November 6th, republishes frora its files of Janu ary, 1892, an article of which the following is a part, by which it at tempts to prove that its course has always been consistent when con sidering "fundamental principles, regardless of popular clamor and the changing position of party managers." It says: "The spirit of war, which has deso lated the earth in all ages, is not dead but only slumbering in our poeple and is liable to break out at any time. We have already had several wars during our brief national existence and are liable to have many more. The people wor ship warriors and great fighters far more than they do the greatest intellectual and moral giants the world has ever produced. No man however great he may have been intellectually and morally has ever been eleoted president of the United States over any kind of a military hero, And no party or man has ever opposed a war in this country, just or unjust, without having been swept out of power by the popular indignation." This is a pretty sweeping state ment and will afford Mr. Bryan very little consolation. Court Docket. State vs T K Chapman and Jana King, lewd cohabitation. State vs T K Chapman, big amy.
