Most beautiful star that ever shone,
She walked out into the 4 rk fil '--"Hi.
Away from the loves of her many frit-ndd,
Like golden rin that have no ends,'
I Away from her baby's little fat feet
An4 dimpled bauds, no soft and sweet,
Away from her husband so true and kind,
"Who ill never live to be resigned,
A Way f r m her brothers, manly ami brave,
Their stronjjarnis were weak theirsister tosave.
The i-hock on her mother's tjirit fell,
Like I'kitk't of lead in a fath -mlehd well,
Aud whiter and whiter her father "a hairs
Vhen tlJd sorrow came on him unawares.
In some far-off world, remote aud dim,
Her husband will Bee her shine on him,
But.'rffeadfulthe loneliness must (ccur
Kre his weary eyes will yaze on her.
Twill bevto him a-s glorious sight
A to traveler wrecked the broad dayliht
Tliey will meet her again in the starry sphere,
T.ut alas ! they will never meet her here.
In the misty morn, in the starry eve
Her presence a glory would always weave.
She was queenly in way and true of soul
Alas ! how quickly she reach. the goal.
l'y, drop down & branch from your starry

To your sad friends wrecked on the shores of
time.
Appear at the lattice of the Blest,
And show us your crown and your pure white
vest,
And since your friends cannot press j-our lipa
fchake u- a kiss frm our finger-tips,
And show us your hand is not always cold,
Hut can hold in its grasp a harp of gold.
Farewell, Nellie, the uod and true,
You come not to us but we go to 3-ou.
It ia now pretty v eil settled in rail
road circles that a joint lease will be
fiigned by the O. R. k N. olHcials to the
Korthern and Union Pacific companies
as soon as the directors of the O. R. &
K. Company reach New York. Messrs.
fcndicott and JfalloweHu liave already
gone East and President Elijah Smith
will fcilow in a day or t wo. -Mercury.
There is no doubt that the general ef
fect of this lease will be in favor of Port
land. The only real harm which the
Northern Pacific could do this neighbor
hood was the building of the Cascade
Branch. This difficulty is now removed
as, under the circumstances, the enor
fnous expenditure for thh work would
be unnecessary and unwise. The peo
ple of the Yakima Valley, however may
thank their stars that this lease and the
cessation of construction has not oc
curred sooner. The subject has liecn in
the balance just long enough to enable
the completion of the road into the rich
country about Yakima City and Ellens
burg, and the stoppage of construction at
'these points makes them supply -depots
for interior Washington for an indefiuite
time4to come. P. Journal of Commerce.
