The circular of the O. It. k N. Co., to
its employes long foreshadowed by ru
mor, notifying th'.n of a reduction in
wages, to take eiiVct cn the first of S.'p
tember, was issued vestrrdav. The
statement of -the company is that the
step is reluctantly taken and is induced
by the present depressed : tate of the
transportation business. A willingness
i) return to old wages upon the revival
of business is foreshadowed. The wages
of all Gaiters and employees in the river
and sound division arc reduced in fair
proportion. There ,is not the slighest
evidence of a resistance to the reduction
l-y a strike of the empleyes, although of
curse, much dissatisfaction exists.
There is a prospect that house rent and
ail -other living expenses will be lowered
accordingly, so that, for those whoa' the
reduction did not catch in debt, with
payments calculated up to the dollar on
tho " installment plan," the diiTcrenc:'
will not be as marked as it would have
been a year ago, when rumors of reduc
tion in salaries first began to be heard.
There is r. somewhat concerted move
ment among the em!6v"s of the O. It.
k N. Co. below the position of mate to
resist the sweeping reduction made in

It is thought that the matter will

hack with Charlie and Jake; and went
up to the Nrth Scappooxe creek where
Mrs Moore and part of her family ad

a new road to us near the Shaltuck bridge

Ramsey's plac. He has a beautifully
p'anised house and everything betokens
thrift and ehcrgy. He will in time have
on excellent and valuable, farm 'hewed
out of the wilderness. Dr. Moore was
just ahead of us on his road-cart with
Giii-'crbrettd. At last we carna to the
steep hid that slopes into the valley,
and a steep one it- was. We however
got down it in safety, ami were glad
wjheii we had successfully made the per
ilous descent. Mrs. Moore had her head
quarters at a log-cabin constructed by
James SliintafTer when logging there jast

been improvised in front of th? cabin.
Near by v.-aa the sparkling fresh water
of the stream in which Mrs. Moore said

the place. The boys did not have to

Thief. Tom. and Bob thought it was a
hog and Bill thought it was the work
shop. The thief went to filling up on
nice large apples while Will went to the
entranc- and demanded his ticket, but
as the gant did not have any Will gave
him oiii from his bear-gun in the neck.
