Gilt- s nor, were on a visit to St. Helen lately One of them has been a whole sale drug gist in Denver, and, though young, has made a big fortune in his business. He is seeking a location to tro into trade again. Enoch ShintafTer is a stirring man and is making Rome howl around his Milton claim. He has moved his family into the house in St. Helen lately vacated by Cantam Kidlev whoso departure is a A great loss to society in our little burg. Newton Perry has a fine breech-load ing shot-gun, and is happy. Mrs. Perry lias cot home from attending Portland o - - patients. The Esq. is still improving. Minnie has found her bracelet. Frank is keeping house at Bradbury. Mrs. Stingly has just returned from East of the Mountains. She describes fhfi weather there as cold. A cous-in of hers came with her whose husband will oon arrive. He is in quest of a good tsi to whereon to erect a saw-mill Mr. Godkin has put up the Drawers in George McBride's store, and Mr. Mo- Bride is dreadful stuck up about them, and we don't wonder, they are handsome, and are full of goods, and handy as a pocket in a shirt. Marion E. Butler is clerking for i. W. McBride now, and is very handy nt that business. He is urbane, and lont talk anybody to death. We think as a trader he would be a success. Received a call from Miss Rathbun Miss Young and Miss Metcalf, a niece of Mr. Edmunds. She is a tine looking lady. Her parents reside near Nines' Chapel, Clarke County, W. T. The wife of Fred Lewis Esq. has been quite sick, so John Corbin informs us who is stopping there. We saw a paro quet in Muckles' store-house bound for that destination. Mr. H. Ellis made a short hunting trip. The current of Lewis River was two strong to overcome with muscle or anything else short of a propellor. Mr. J. Harris wiii soon build a house for Samuel Conrad in Columbia City. Samuel intends to lead the Yu in the suarch of improvements. Nice business suits at McBridu. The grandmother of the Links lately tame from Canada. . She was a pleasant intelligent old lady, originally from Cornwall, England. Mr. Dillard is having an otlice fitted up in the Taylor Hotel The location is tip-top. W. 1L Whitney is doing the carpenter work. Ex-Governor George L. Woodslately made a flying visit to St. Helen, also the Governor's father Caleb and brother James Woods. We have received a fine photograph of Ben Watts and his hxy press, which appears like a splendid specimeu of ma chanical art. Miss Blanche H. Adams, the Major's little daughter, had a standing in the Publie School last term of 92. Maxi mum 100. Andrew Miles was in town the other clay. He has four children, and per haps was hunting the Doctor to buy a lifth. The steamboat building on the strand approaches completion, and will soon walk the water like a thing of life. Miss Louise Conyers continues to im prove, so does Mrs. Grey. Her mother Mrs. Itidley remains with her. Messrs. McLean and O'Neal gave us a call They are line athletic-looking men and very gentlemanly. Mrs. C. S. Emerson has moved into town to school her children and has rooms in Taylor & HoteL Mr. "Enoch Shintaffer has moved into the. house lately vacated by Captain Ridley. Mrs. Butler and daughter keep house in the rooms above George McBride's wtore. Daniel Slavens is slashing near Bue na Vista, and has fully recovered his healtlu J. S. Davenport lias a beautiful oil stove to cook his edibles at his lunch house. There is an awful lot of Belgian blocks .Still un-hauled at Riley's quarry. Received a sail trow Miss Dora Ellis.
