The object this association which sprang from Xho grocer board of trade is ptevent the diversion of trade Uoiton, Philadelphia End Baltimore, already formidable livaU of New York City, and to secure for producers and consumers througout the country an ecoaaaical sjstem of transportation. A- Sew York exchange says it is js&ible that in furtherance of this iclrable object a,n appeal will be made Congress to, authorise tho building by Government of a national railway - Area New York to Chicago, the roa-1 to fie of the very best class, with steal rails and double track throughout, and to he devoted exclusively to the forwarding of freight. Jt is suggested that private compa nies or individuals shall be allowed to place theia own rolling stock on this road, and to pay toll therefore, precisely as the canals are operated. By this means the actual cost of transportation could be discovered which is now an impossibility.
