literal tcpub It Slit rit n- DALLAS, SATURDAY, NOV. 9. ULOODsillCD lNliVITABL.15, The people's' will now goes for naught io theso United States; while capitalists and office-holders defeat beyond any present remedy a fair ex pression of the popular will. That a gross ignorance aud uuheard of indif ference is manifest, cannot be denied ; while the corruption and incompetency of the present administration, has boeu tiiaie clear; yet the apathy of some honest men still continues to an extent truly alarming, while our nation gravi tates to a revolution which must surely end in bloodshed which cannot now be averted, with our treasury plundered in the name of economy; offices filled with incompetent partisans, in the name of Civil-service, lie form ; millions of acres of land illegally gobbled up by corporations to eurich the chosen few. Black men couuted like chattel and driven to the polls without their own consent and enlightenment of the acts whereby citizens are enslaved- Inter nal corruptions will disintegrate, and theo United States must soon suffer to reap that which has beeu sown. Good men have left the field almost entirely to traitors and thieves, and now, ere long, we shall find that governments, born in corruption, are destroyed by their own pollution. The people will not long endure these great wrongs unless grown so enslaved, they, are al ready unfit for freedom. God forbid ! Let them not lack the power to break the galling yoke of slaves, and set themselves tree. It caunot be that the American people will endure a public debt, State and National, of $3, 000,000,000 enhanced by a corrupt ad ministration, to give opportunities for stealing. One half of the peoplo Trill no longer consent to be taxed, plunder ed, and defrauded out of the rights of American citizens, to accomodate swindling office-holders and speculators. Bitter opposition and fierce contention 'Will soon culminate in war, and purifi cation will thin come by violeuce like the thunderstorm ; it now gathers, the clouds are dark and big with storm, the thraldom from military and political despotism must be broken and as soon as the public mind grasps the situation, as one man of honest soul aud broad calibre now docs here and there among the masses, then will come the terribh reaction of an outraged populace, which like an avalanche, shall sweep the Land, and with it, tbe destroyers ot all that is worth the blood of Freemeu, who produce all the wealth and pay all the taxes, believing no longer what their party leaders now tell them; we shall have a contest with bayonets in stead of ballots for supremacy ; and as this day is at hand it behooves all pa triots to be wary, and not be found uu prepared eie the storm is upon us. Pi oneer. The Open Polar sea. The open Polar Sea must be discov ered soon, if at all. At least so argues a writer of Natort( an English period ical ), who believes the sea will soon cease to exist. Land is suid to be rising everywhere between the polo and the fifty-seventh parallel, and the greatest movement is at the pole itself. Some interesting fucts are quoted in support of the theory. Pliny said that Scan dinavia was an archipelago, nnd spoke of bold seamen who had circum navigated the group of Islands. Po tolemy confirmed the statement. Celesius said, in the seventeenth century, Norway wa3 rising at the rale of forty inches- year. Sir Charhs Lyell indorses the theory. Th water level in the gulf of Bothina falls one foot every fif teen years. Near Geffe there are low pastures where old men remember seeing boats afloat. Near Stockton, seventy feet above the level of the sea, the remains of shell fish identical with the present coast species are found. AtSoduleige, ninety feet above high water, there is a bed of sand which contains some wrecked boats and an old anchor. In the interior of Spitsbergen, skeletons of whales have been uoeartbed above sea level. The fishermen say that land has risen so much that the shallowness of the water has driven away the riyht whal, once so abundant, is now rarely seen. On the Pacific the shores around liehrio" Strait are low and flat, but a mile or two back there are ranges of blufls parallel with the coast, and containing shells of the littoral species. If the theory is true, it offers a curious case of compensation. While the ocean is washing way Great Britian, France, Holland and New England, away in the north, the continents arc encroach ing upon the sea. The only thing to regret is that the process cannot be reversed, aud Ncptuu-j enriched at the expense of the frozen north, aud to the more habitable south . Transcript.
