We call upon all who honestly be lieve this present administration to be corrupt;all who believe Grant tp be incompetent to perform the high and responsible duties, that belong to the CJbief Magistrate of this great Republic; all who are satisfied, that a change of. administration would redound .to the great good of the people at large and would tend to bring about peace and fraternal feeling at home and respecta bility abroad; all who really sympathize with the down ' trodden people of the South; all who preler the election o Greeley the statesman, to Grant the usurper, to come out on Tuesday next at the sacrifice of all other considerations and vote and work vigorously for Grce ley and Brown ; and we promise you that victory, sweet victory, shall perch upon our standard; this military tyrant shall be driven from your national cap ital, and the freeman's banner shall once more wave undisturbed, where once our noble sires planted the olive branch and tree of liberty. THE STATESMAN Is TERRIBLY EXERCISED OVERAGOV.GlU VER'9 VETO. The Sialemwn of the 24th, think" that somebody likes power, and that the people somewhere have not been allowed to do as they please. Speaking of the Portlaud Police Bill, it says : " The love of power and patronage is one of Grovor's weaknesses. To hiui.it was a glorioos thing to thruttlg the people of an entire city and hold them at his mercy, Such power has more attractions to his vain, weak mind, than the respect of mej. Ho vetoed tbe repealing bill, and I'urtlaud is still captive, bound hand aud foot and help less, at the feet of G rover and the Hallock Lappcus ring. 'The people of 'that city have no redress aud no means of escape from ina?adnmmtratiou though tlir masters might enact any act of despotism. We arc surprised, that the Statesman should feci so very sensibly over a mat ter so trifling in its character as this, if all it intimites be true. Suppose Lappeus or any other gentlemao con trols the people of Portland so far as their city government is concerned, upon the necks of the same people, the iron heal of Ren Holladay hunts so much worse, that Lappcus' oppression will be but a flea bite;and then think of the whole people of the State being cheated out of their choice tor U.S.Sen ator, and ny legislation for their good during the ? forty days farce." If the whole people, pan stand it to wear the gauling phains of !!$o Ilolladay and this prcecpt (a$nable Grant Party in Oregon, it seems to us that the Slatc$ man, and the people of the liUle city of Portland ought to thank their God, that things are no worse. Wo are glad you are made to fccl. Lay on Lappeus! Fearful. Dqriqg the last days of the session of the Legislature just closed, Caples slQod in his place, andf, referring to other, members, cried with a loud voice, corruption. Great God And this from a would be man, who had been standing to his aru pits in cor ruption for forty days and forty nights,n whoso pocket jingled the money not long before handled by another, and on whose back Sympson said, could be pound Holladay's brand I The biuest Steal of the forty Days Farce. The greatest outrage ever perpetrated upon a free people was tjie passage of a bill by the last Legislature, ' introduced by Dolph of Portland, by which they take directly out of the pockets of the people, $25 000 per year to support ap irresponsi ble immigration society, and compel the people to pay bcpideg that sum, whatever expenses may be incurred by men and women sent out by tins (socie ty, which will be not less than $5,000 more, making tbo beautiful little sum of 830,000 each year taken from the people for nothing. I The forepart of last week Hare, the Grantitc, sent to town his flaming hand-bills announcing that he would address the citizens of Folk County on Saturday the 2Gth, on the political issues of the day, and inviting Judge Shattuck to joio him. The time came, . . n . i i 1 1 ana Mr. iiarc arovc imp town about twelve o'clock, in jrreat stylo. The town seemed to be filling up rapidly. Proud horse upon whom, sat anxious Grantites, pranced into town. The rattling of bugjiy wLeels; the rum bling of heavy wagons, and the squeal ing of China pigs made high music; and all seemed werry as a humuiicg bird upon a honcjsuckle. Wiih trembling hand and timid heart, we handed the Judge's note to n friend whom we chose as our hecond, aud requested hiry to pneut it to Mr. Hare, and inform him that if nothing else would satisfy hiru but the prcf-euce of au antagonist, wc would present our selves before him as a substitute for the Judge, as ho could uot bo present on the occasion, owing to pressing bui ines st Portland. Tirns rolled on, and no meeting called. The peo ple began to return to their home, wondering why, and at run down it was announced that the meeting wouIJ come oil in the evening at early caudle light. At half past seven, or pcrhap- ucar eight o'clock, wc put on our over coat, stove pipe hat, and cane iu hand, wc started for the Court j House, when at the gate which opens into the street in front of our douiicil, we wen brought to a suJdeu halt by the well known voice of our better half, pnjoin ing upon us, to be careful and not get shot. We proceeded wiih firm step, de liberately intending that if Hare should charge Grant with doing one good thing as a civilian, we would prove him a liar. As we entered Main Street, we discovered the Odd Fellow's and Good Tempar's Halls were lighted up to unusual brightness ; the business houses were all in run ning order with no one mls.ing. Near to our right stood the M. 1!. Church in fhicb some Granttte orator w ex horting the people to discountenance intemperance and come up to a higher standard of ftorals. Just to our left flood the Court Houe, the place where earthly judges administer human jus tice, and where we expected to sec Hare in a very few minutes devour Horace Greeley without oil. We pro proceeded to the head of the stairs aud was surprised to behold that tl;o im mense audience was composed of one Grantite from town, one from the country, apd a third whom we took to be Hare. The trio were seated quietly by the stove, all engaged in reading what we surmised to be O'Meara's Bulletin and as it seemed to us that they were about through reading O' Meara's wail over the abandonment of the Kentucky resolutions of .'98 and 9 and that they were about to rise, sing the doxology and be dismissed, we quietly retired. The Governor has votoed the Irnnii gration Bill which the last Legislature passed in total disregard of the rta 0f the people. This will will save the tax payers of the State 530,Q0O annually ; so by the .vigilance of a faithful Governor the attempt to rob the people and bankrupt the State, will prove a failure. It is true that Lish Applegate will be prevented from advertising his ec centricities in Europe and America at the expense of the people, but who cares for that, Lish has been crazy ever since he was kicked out of office, because somebody was not supporting (him; and in the bargan and sale for the election of Senator, and support of Grant, Lish was to be sent swinging around the circle, to cut up his monkey fchine, on the people's mono?.
