Very rarely do we see an exercise of that kind -carried through without a failure, to a greater ,orles8 extent, on the part of some one. Such however was the case in this instance. Much credit is due to the .untiring energy of Mr- Ogles by, Miss Witten ami Miss Scriber, for making a success of the exercises, under cir cumstances before which many would have abandoned the project We Jtardly feel liko at tempting a description of the entertainment, yet, circumstances seem to forbid that we pass it by unnoticed A beautiful " Grectiag Glee' was sung at the opening by the entire eehool. It was well sung and made a good impression The Salutatory, by Win. , Blarney, was well chosen, and well delivered. Aftor the song "Beautiful Bells," played by Mrs . Collins aiv sung by the Misses Wittjji came the dialogue of Mother Gooso." Miss Mollio Nichols, sur rounded by a crowd of little folks, kept the audience well entertained by the humor of tbo piece as well as their excclleut performing Joseph Glaze delivered the Declamation, "Ml Tabor," in true -ftio stylo. Though the piece was quite lengthy, and Master Glaze young and almost unpractised, yet be went .through his" piece without trepidation and shewed a careful study of his subject. Quar 'teM, Come to the Greenwood," was well sung by Misses icunie Lee, Libbio Shaw, and Messrs, Chas, Teal and Z. Dodson. In .the charade "Outrage," M Us Betsey Primley was well per. sonated by Miss Mollie Nichols; Eupbrosine, netce of Miss Primley, was acted in gooxl style by Miss Lou Ellis; Mr. Puffs was represented by M. M. Og'.sij, and the servant girl, Susan, by Miis Mary Kincaid. Miss Kinrail dpw the attention of the house by. the admirable manner in which she did her part, and the ex pressions of the audience showed that she was appreciated. Comic song, 'Esau," by :,nk Knox, brought down the bouse, and .we cmld imagine &at we all saw Esau. Essay, entitled The 'importance of Gaining Knowledge in Youth, by May Shclton, was well .rendered Medley well, imagine all the little girls in kown circled around one larger one, each one singing a ainercm song, ana you nave the "Medley." The girls were so small that tbey .-eou!i not be seen standing behind the organ, and after tbey were through, they were called to be front to receive the cheers of the audi-nee. Queen of Beauty was finely played by Mary Zutnwalt as JddeM of the Beautiful, ElUn Bobbins as Dawn, An nie McNeil as Day, Sarah hreve as Sunlight, Cornelia Ifagood as Ni'h, Libbic Sbaw as Forest, Jennie MeNeil as Fioweri. Mr. Brown, Frank Knox ' Clarendon J. D. Lee. Instrumental music was frequently interspersed throughout the en. tire performance by Ida Witten and others. Taken altogether, it was one of the most inter esting exhibitions which it has been our good fortune to witness. The proceeds of the eve ning, atter defraying expenses were to be de voted to repairs of the Acaslemy. Although the bouse was full, yet, as all the patrons ot the school were admitted free the proceeds of the evening only amounted to twenty dollars. The incidental expenses were fitteen dollars and twenty-five cents, leaving a balance of $4 75 net proceeds, which has been paid to Mr. N Lee, to be put jp'Ck the fund of the Academy devoted to icpairs. Hardly a Joke. We understand that the young men who attempted to break up the ex hibition by drawing out of it a day or two be fore the exercises and circulating a petition fvr the removal of the Professor, and in other ways interfering with 'matters which really did not concern them, now attempt to make it ap. pear that it was done for a joke. It is one which they will undoubtedly appreciate when they thoroughly understand the light in which community looks upon such actions, and find that the Joke, if there U ofte, terminates upon tbem&cires, Complaints have reached ns that our pa. per has failed to reach its destination, in several instances, In this county.
