The mails hae been very irregular the last few days. Stilts have become obsolete, and snow shoes have taken their place. We no'ieed a th hotel, but didn't know what they were until wa inquired. This shows what we know abut farming. 1 he Ball on Xoaday night at the Cou;t House bids fair to to be a decided success. Free Exhibition. Concerts, panorama", pub lic readings and lectures all hav their charms. Balls and picnics are really fascinating in their season. The lectures of Mrs. Dunniway and Mra Mjller are both amusing and instructive; but all' thews combined have not the attractions about them which ere presented by the collec tion of toys to be gctn at the More of G. B S tiles " Headquarters building," Main btreet, Dallas. Kris Kringle has lavished his bounty unstinted, and Santa Claus can be supplied for many a trip among the little folks. Remember aud call there for Christmas toys. The Beautiful snow has decorated the hills and valleys surrounding us, for the past week. Nature has donned her winter livery, and al though w miss the jingling of bells which lends life and charm to the season o( sleighing in many places, yet wa opine that we are fully remunerated by the music of the " Charming Belles," with which, thank ocr lucky stars, we are amply provided. The snow comes just in iime to hightea the enjoyment of "CLristmas times " and lend a double charm to tho circles of genial frien ls which will assemble in the different localities to enjoy themselves as tbeir yariod circumstances or inclinations may die-' lata. Mr. nenry Ilaygood, while attempting to cross the creek short distance below town a few days ago with bis bor-es and wagon, drove into swimming water. The box floated off, taking tba forward bolster with 'it, thus leaving tho t horses with only the forward wheels. The box floated to tho shore, or near enough to allow Mr. II. to get out safe. The horses floated down against a steep bluff where it was impossible for them, to climb out, but by getting assistance, Mr. II. succeeded in getting them to another point and rescuing them. Fortunately, nothing was lost, aad nobody fcurt, 32 Please notice this. Thoso in arrears, either for subscription or advertising, will con fer a favor by calling and settling. It is a small amount to each, but in the aggregate amounts to a handsome Bum to us, and will enable us to make certain improvements contemplated. Our Brass Band have received their iostru ments, and from this forward we shall doubtless be entertained v;ith plenty of music. The in struments are all of splendid quality and fine tone. The Trans-Continental Railroad has opened up, and the influx of immigration is developing the resources of the Pacifio coast. The O. A C. Road is doing the same thing for Oregon. The Arts and Sciences are being developed here as elsewhere. Photography has been im proved, until the pictures of persons are so life like as to astonish even the best informed. J. H.
