DALLAS, SATURDAY, DEC. 1G.
THE BALLAD OF IIOSS 11ILL.1U.
It iru four pirates of Gotham City,
They went a sailing out to boa
In along, low, black, brass-m on n ted schooner,
Which carried the name of Tatnmanee.
There was Rueful Richard and Cunning Petor,
And Joky, Oaky and Boss Billee.
Now, when they had been some years a sailing,
It blowed a regular jamboree ;
And orerboard full Rueful Richard,
A leaving his debts to bis deputco.
" Push him under," says Joky Oaky,
It takes all our craft to carry three."
Now, when they had sailed a little farther,
Theri came a big ship up on their Ice,
And the skipper hollered through his trumpet,
Whoerer the devil you may be ?"
Then Joky Oaky snapped his ringers ;
" What will you do about it ?" says he.
The skipper he called to Charles O'Conor,
"Just hand that big chap up to mo."
So Charles be reached down into the schooner
And jerked Boss Bill out suddenlee.
And the last that was seen of Master William,
The skipper had him over his knee.
When Joky Oaky saw this happen,
He fell a weeping bitterlee ;
" Ah, were I again an honest peddler
Of second-hand puns and poetroe !
Alas, there isn't in all Joe Miller
A joke for this catastrophee."
To Joky Oaky said cunning Peter
" With your expressions you are too freo."
Said Joky Oaky to Cunning Peter
" I guess you don't realize, Peter B.,
That we have lost in William's pocket?.
The grog and the grub for all we three."
"And what is to hinder Charles O'Conor,
Whenever the skipper shall agree,
From reaching again down over tbe gunnel,
And catching hold of my greeu coatee,
To lock me up in a County Court House,
Or uninhabited Armoree ?"
" Do as I tell you," said Cunning Peter,
" We are both in one boat, you ,
Let us surrender to Richard O'Uorwan
And tell him to smite us tenderleo.
Better be smote by Richard O'Gornian,
Than swing at O'Conur'a main cross-tree !'

The aristocrats and a great portion
of the middle class of England enter
tain a deadly hostility toward llcpubli
can institutions. This was shown at
the time of the rebellion by the aid and
encouragement extended by the Eng
lish to those who were endeavoring to
overthrow our Government ; and it U
dow being manifested in intrigues for
the restoration of Napoleon Verliuel
and the Empire in France. The Ex
Emperor has recently been visiting
various members of the English aristo
cracy, who have used their utmost in
fluence to create popular democstra
tions in his honor in the towns through
which he was to pass, while the coun
try papers, which are generally con
trolled by the squires and noblemen in
their respective neighborhoods, have
been teeming with extravagant puffs of
his abilities. By showering such atten
tions upon the great usurper in Eng
land, it ie hoped that the French na
tion will be conciliated in bis favor j
and already the Napoleonists in Paris
point to the manner in which their
master is received in England as an
evidence that in the eyes of the world
Sedan is ignored, and the Ex-Emperor
regarded as a man of profound wisdom
and unselfish patriotism. In the fame
spirit, the London Times urges upon
the Americau people the wisdom of
re-nominating President Grant at the
expiration of his term of office. The
fact is that a thriving Republic on
either side of the Atlantic ia a Ktaiiding
menace to the permanency of the Bri
tish monarchy, and whatever measures
may appear the most likely to imperil
the success of Republicanism in any
country will receive the warmest sup
port of the English aristocracy and its
organs.
