Mr. T. B. Newman has a lot of fine wire
corn poppers for sale cheap at his tin shop.
Owing to high water between here and
Portland the mails from the latter place did
not reach us on Monday and Tuesday.
Mr. William Farley will open a Writing
School in the Academy Building, commencing
on Tuesday evening, the 28th inst.
The past week has been the most unpleasant
of the season. Rain, snow, sleet and hail hare
been showered upon us in abundance.
Dr. M.D. Merrick, State Lecturer, will speak
on the subject of Temperanee on Sunday even
ing, the 26th int., at the M. E. Church!
Thanks. We are under obligations to Sena
tors Corbett and Williams for valuable congres
sional documents, and to Mr. William Howe, of
Dallas, for important statistical publications
ilr. William Brown, well known to the citi
zens of Dallas and vicinity as a thorough
business man. is opening a grocery and provi
sion store in the stand formerly occupied by
Laugbery 4 Collinj on Main Street.
Hotel. The Eagle Hotel, Dallas, has been
Te-Stted, and will be opened for business on
Monday the 27th InsLMr. F. M. Collins, the
gentlemanly proprietor, will be in attendance
at all hours, and we hardly need add that, un-
der the supervision Mrs. C, the rooms will
be, kept in prime condition, and the table J

Entertainment. The entertainment of tbe
Dallas Literary Society on Wednesday even-
ing last was an entire success tt far exceeded
,the predictions of theost sanguine. The ad-
dresses were applicable and well delivered,

could nt be excelled by any amateur perform

aim to ingraft anything like a theatrical spirit
