PROF. CONDON'S LECTURE.
In a poem entitled “ Hoosier M ary” which
we published in our forty-fifth number the
. word “ Snllapo" should rend “ .Sallapa” and
the last clause of the last line of the sixth
stanza should read “ All dead or mothers,”
instead of “ All dead mothers” as we gave it.
As corrected this stanza reads:
Alas for me! High mountains rise;
And clouds of winter sweep along
A thousand leagues of angry skies -
between my Mary and my song!
“ Philene” and “ Nancy too are there
With “ Sarah Jane” and many others
Who once invoked front me a prayer
But now alack! All dead or mothers!

Long Tom, Oregon,Feb. 11, 1874.
Y’ ou ought to see me w rithe and foam
And hoar me vent my nameless curses
Upon the loon, who spoiled my /»<»/we
Vial mangled my majestic versos.
If ’twas that bungling “ priut,” o f youm,
( ’at-haul him well until he mends,
And lmld him up to public 'scorn
For butchering your unworthy friends;
If ’twas vour “ d ev il"— then inv friend
.
l ak. up your sponge and crush Ins skull,
And teach him how to be so dull!
If 'twas iu “ proof” the crime began
Get some good man to “ put a head”
Upon the “ reader” like a can
Of oysters—or a pig-----of lead!
And if it w is the bbtominy poppy
Or great snu-flower— who sent to you
The mangled verse—the bungled “ copy,”
Then hold him np to public view
If you call find a pole or thing
That’s high enough to make him swing.
Tlie press lias made me quite a fool
And lioMs me up for ridicule!
The mangled verse is void of sense
And gone the blame at my expense.
N"\v /.-< . ¡i ;/ knows 'twas bad at best
And now foul tyi»es have fixed the rest.
In agony I paw the ground
And rave to hear the grating sound,
