éém th e Preacher s PleSv A lawyer who consumes three hours in artfuui*' a question of law relating to the ownership of a barrel of apples is imlignant at his minister for ex ceeding twenty-live minutes in un folding one of the great principles o* morality, on the observance of which the whole existence of society de pends. The judge who tills two hours with his “ opinions” on the right of a counsel to challenge a witness, grumbles at his minister because he has prolonged the discussion of iuu- damcntal laws of human existence to thirtv ruiuutcs. 'Ihe physician who takes ten minutes to prepare the medicine for the headache is liervous- lv restive if his minister spends twice so many in attempting to remove a chronic heart-ache. The belle who has spent how long?-—in adjusting the bow s of her bonnet, is remorseless in her criticisms on the minister who does no* finish his meditations on the character of God in fifteen minutes. The fop who has combed and waxed and perfumed his beard and mus tache for an hour, is mortified past endurance if the poor minister is not through his discussion of im mortal life “ inside of twenty min utes.” i argued tliatf'when ignorance is bliss, it is’nt worth while to be wise. At any rate, Mr. Shepherd is at the haven where he would be, and has not been subjected to the inconven iences of quarantine.— Sprin<i/iehl / it'p u h lir a n . NEW ADVERTISEMENTS.
