It lias been proposed that the English exhibits at the world's fair should have attached to them the price without the duty, this our free trade contemporaries say will give those selling an object lesson. It is unnecessary to point out that it is not proposed to fur nish the scholars with either the wages paid in England or the decrease in the cost of such goods since their manufacture has been encouraged in this country by protection. I his plan is not without a prece dent, and in the light of the single example it will depend on the view taken of the immigration problem whether such comparative figures will be of advantage to this coun try or not. At the world's fair, held at Philadelphia in 1876, the Swedish exhibit was marked with the assumed comparative prices of the goods exhibited under free trade and protection, and seen in mammoth display of holiday goods. He has added a new line which consists of a beautiful as sortment of rolled gold jewelry warranted to wear as good as gold and costing one-tenth as much money, diamond cut pins, rings, fine umbrel'as for holiday presents and novelties, f lis stock is now in and holiday choppers should lose no time in seeing his wonderful array which is not surpassed by any on the coast either in elegance or prices, lie also carries a gigantic stock of beautiful hanging lamps, stand lamps, bicycles, tricycles, safeties and velocipedes, which he guaran tees to sell as low as any place in uregon. His assortment of fine teas and coffees is always complete, as well as a general stock of family groceries. He l.uys his goods direct for net cash and sells them the same way. Fine Sultlnga. W. R.
