an ex-soldier who had been em
ployed by Downing, was shot and
killed by a hand of Indians Tliurs
day night; and information was
brought here by Downing. Trav
ellers followed the tracks of the
Indians some distance, and they
say the baud is on the warpath.
Lieutenant Irwin and a com pan v
of soldiers from Fort Bowi? will
pursue the redekins. Settlers are

raid from the Indians, whose

It is curious how boldly some
robberies are carried on. Ar ex
