It must he admitted that the canvass being made t raise a world's fair fund in Oregon is not meeting with much success. It looks now as if Oregon would be unrepresented at the great exposi tion. This is deplorable, but there seems to be no help for it. It is possiole that later reports from the canvassers will put a brighter outlook on the subject, but the in i neat ions for such a rei-ult are not now encouraging. Portland Tele ii's. The following is from the l.aker (. lty Blade: The old spy ing that "murder wiil out" has probably come true at last in the ease of the mysterious dis appearance of Willis Skiff, a prominent citizen of Union about six years ago. The sudden disap pearance of Skill" and the mvsterv which enshrouded the aliiiir is still fresh in the m'nd and does not need reiterating. At the time of the disappearance of Skirt three parties living at North Powder were arrested ami tried for his murtl-r, nam ly, Dr. Tihbits, Bobier and Dave Wiggins. On account of lack of evidence the parties were released. In Mon tana last week a party was hung for murder by the name of Dr. Tibbetts; before he died Tibbelts confessed to the murder of Willis Skitf and afterwards disjiesing of me notiy in rowueriver. Tibbetts exonerated Bobier and Wiggins irotii any know ledge ot or band in the murder of Skill', saying he alone did the deed. At the time of the tnal public sent iiient and circum stances were against Tibbets, but enough evidence c.uld not be gathered to convict him. Teacher' Examination.
