Joking apart, it does look as if a
little elementry instruction is
needed in the shape of an object
lesson regarding the Australian
system of voting recently adopted
by the state legislature, and to be
put in practice for the first time in
this state at the June 'V- election. So
many blunders are being made by
the voters of other commonwealths
that even though we of Oregon are
exceptionally intelligent, some of
us may make a mes of our inten
tions next June and vote against
the verv man or men for whom e
desire to cast our distinguished
siilbages. Astorian.
The new law does net apply to
municipal elections, unless especi
ally provided by an amendment to
the city chatter, which is not the
case in Albany. In the state and
county elections, the ticket will
have to be printed with the names
of all the candidates on one ticket,
and the voter will have to desig
nate by a mark of his own which
candidate is to receive his y,ate
No one (Killing place is to receive
the ballots of more than 240 voters
and at each polling place there
must be at least three booths for
the accointno lation of voters when
they prs-pare their ballots. The
county will have to furnish booths
for each precinct before the June
election.
