alone in the bank, when a man

decision of the commissioner of the
general land office in the case of

state of Washington, wherein the
homestead entry ot Miarpstein had

involved was embraced in a list of
indemnity school selections in the
Seattle distiict. The land, having
lieen legally reserved from settle
ment and entry, was not subject
to the homestead application of
Sharpstein, w hich was properly
rejected.

Jefferson's root has recently been
dislodged, Milton Thompson, wh
used to work for Judge Boise, re
cites an interesting reminiscence.
He fays that he saw Mt. Jrllirsoa
in eruption thirty years g-. As
reported by Mr. Thompson, the
sight was a grand one, and one
not soon to lie forgotten. At times
tliiring the eruption smoke issued
from the crater easily i nd regular
ly, just as it does from a stove,
while at other times it was puffed
out nervously, as if from the
smoke stack of some giant steam
engine.
