held by Otorge Francis Train in
the hall of the Grand opera boute

to sneak the applause became
deafening and he invariably took a
seat until some semblance of order
was restored. At times he became
profane in his remarks about the
disturoers, which only increased
their shouts of derision. At last
he gave in, and stopped bis lec
ture. A man jumped on tbe stage and
undertook to quiet Mr. Train by
telling him to go on with the lec
ture and the noise would stop.
Train was apparently angry that
the stranger should speak to him.

of the crowd and said :
"This is the last time I will ever
speak to an American audience.
Hereafter, I am dumb, except to
children. I shall not fast, but
psck up my things and go to -Chicago,
where I shall spend the
balan -e of my days. 1 n the
American peop'.e, anyhow. They
do not appreciate me. Hence.'ortli
I belong to the little ones."
It was said he subsequently tore
up his fatting contract, tickets and
everything else rela'ing to the
American public. At a late hour
tbe crowd opened the doors and
went liomt.
