The advent of a new star in a new play should be hailed with pleasure by our theatre-going public, which, however royal to old and favorite attractions must sometimes long for something that has not been seen before. Such an opportunity is offered them in the adyent of (ieorge C. Staley, thetierman dialect comedian, in his play '-A Royal Pass." Mr. Staley comes with the highest recommendations from cities where he has already established himself as a favorite. He is said to possess a sweet singing voice and great dramatic ability united w ith a pleasing and magnetic stage presence. His support is admirable and bis play an interesting ue, containing many new and catchv songs anil a great deal of delightful comedy. "A Royal Pass" is guarantee a high class production in every way. At the opera house to-night. I rmn Mill City. County Judge Iavidon on his visit to Mill City last week with Commissioners irimm and Wat son, looking up the location of the proposed new bridge iicloss the Santiam, there reports having found Mill City thriving beyond his expectations sa.;s the Salem Statesman. The sawmills theie are turning out not less than 45, 000 feet of sawed lumber per day. The Linn county court had dis missed the matter of a bridge at this point, hence d"nl not join the Marion court in a visit to the river. Judge Pavidson believes a bridge can be built there for -f:X00 or lessi1 It would he located just below the j Oregon Pacific railroad bridge. There are natural rock abutments. To bridge the Sautiam there 125 foot span would be required and the remainder would be of frame trestle, making in all a bridge feet in leng'h. It is probable Lii n county will join Marion in the construction oi this bridge. Accused of S-il net Ion. Articles of incorporation have been filed with the secretary of stale with the following incorpor ators: Dr. J. L. Hill, W. W. Par rish. II. J. McCartney, Reuben Davis, H. W. Perry, Frank Davis, Hiram l'eerey, for the Swdaville Railway Company. The incor poration papers call lor a railroad Irom Sodaville to Albany. It is understood that the intention of ie company is to construct a motoi line Irom houaviiieto Lebanon junction, at which i new company will lie or lias aueauy oeen toruieifcto continue th ' line into AlbinvX Whatev-r might have been thought of the report when first talked of has no bearing on the true facts as at present pre sented. The company attempted to secure the right-of-way through Lebanon, but it is said some per sons along the route refused to al low them to pass through their farms, w hich accounts for Lebanon be'ng side tracked. We fear Leb anon bus stood in its own light by permitting such a course to be taken. Albany would not be in jured by the motor going to, or through Lebanon, for direct rail would then be secured from this point to Sodaville, a thing very much desired by every resident of Albany, but Lebanon would be materially injured by the road missing it. Whether Lebanon's opportunity has passed for getting the motor company to return to their original course we cannot learn, but if our personal interests were tnere we would learn, and that soon. We have it direct that a competent engineer, who has experience in railroad work, has hi en sent for and is expected on the line from Tallman to Soda ville either this, or at the farthest, next week, and where he drives .the pegs there the road will be built. A pontile of the route lias been made, and now all that is nccsstrv before grading com mences is to make a final survey. It' the extension of the Sjutheru Pacific from Lebanon to Waterloo should he made as reported then Lebanon will not t-ullcr so much, but if that should not be done an oversight may be realized when 'uo late. That Albany will be connected w ith the finest watering place in the state in a few months seems a fixed fact, for which the lltuvi.n returns the thanks of this I community to the enterprising company in charge, it is neneveu by capitalists acquainted with such road -) that if judiciously managed, there is no road in the state that w ill pay better divi dends. The incorporators have been asked to place stock on the market, to allow outside invest ment, but they say they are satis fied with the present number and have no stock for sale. In this they are w ise. They seem to un derstand themselves, and give as one reason for not opening stock books that obstructionists might purchase and delay the enterprise. Oentlemen, Albany is located on the south bank of the Willam ette river, less than fifteen miles on a direct lino from Sodaville, and rather than have the motor killed our capitalists will meet yju half way. 8 impended. The Junction Pilot has suspend ed publication. Its editor found that it was not of sufficient money making capacity to war.ant its continuance, ainMie also disliked the muscular exertion required to defend himself from the attacks of persons who considered they had a grievance, one of whom knocked the editor down over some trivial matter they had been discussing, the foundation to w hich waB in t'-e editor's refusing to mention the man's wife in the paper. The editor, who is a slightly built man, while his antagonist is a muscular built fellow, produced a revolver, for which he must answer to the county for carrying concealed weapons, and the city arrested him for drawing the pistol. His antagonist was fined for aasault.
