as commander of the Itata, arrived
here from San Diego yesterday, ac
companied by V. uuzman, a prom
nent member ot the insurgent
party. The statement that the
Itata will be released upon a bond

what premature. Application for
release has not yet been made,
though some such action will pro
bably be taken in the immediate
future. The matter would have
been arranged before now but for
tin; fact that some doubt exists as
to the legality of the acceptance by
Judge Ross of the bonds, and his
orddring the vessel's release while
acting outside his own district.
When Page and Kels, attorneys for
the congressional party in this
city, make their application and
bonds are fixed, the amount will
be forthcoming, as men of standing
are prepared to qualify at once.
When the Itata is finally released
she will leave San Diego for this
port, where tlie necessary repairs
will be made, after which she will
return to San Diego in time for a
hearing of th case in tbe district
court at Los Angeles, September
13th.

ports are coming in of a destruc
tive hailstorm which passed about
twenty-five miles north of here

horn, Borne measuring, fourteen
