It is said that the German Km peror has inibideJ many idea that contain wisdom and sound common sense from his interview with tiie English Queen, and well he miht, for Victoria of England has recognized the fact that the people are the rulers and she is but the executor of their will. The Springfield Republican eays that the inference drawn by the Eng lish liberals from the publication at this time of the queen's letters to the late Archbishop of Cater bury concerning Irish church dis establishment, are not unreason able. Naturally, feeling quite sure that the letters could not have been published except with a pur pose on the part of the queen, they believe that she anticipates the time when the commons and the lords shall again be opposed, a? they were when she wrote to !.-. Tail, and this of course involves an expectation of the return of Mr. Gladstone to power as the result of the next general election, and tte consequent passage of a home rule bfle bill. This would be a more hitler pill than disestablish ment for the lords to swallow and yet the queen knows that they must swallow it, or their house and her throne be shaken. Whether a present political effect be designed or cot, this is easily seen to be the natural and indeed inevitable deduction, in case the situation supposed should actually occur. The queen never showed her sound sense aud sure judgment to more advantage than in the position she took on this former critical occasion, as now first re vealed by the letter io Archbishop Tait. whom she employed to bring the lesson home to the lord. She simply said to the lords: Your part and mine in the real govern ment of the Empire are but secc nd ary ; the people are the rulers, and when they have expressed their will through the action of the com mons, it is not safe for you to dare a collision. It is you tli.it would suffer in such a collision, and your fate would endanger the crown it self. It must be something of a shock to tory England, to say nothing of ihe privileged class.-e themselves, to find that the queen has uttered such radicaisiiu as this, and it would be interesting to know wbather majesty's grand son, William of Germany, thought of it. It is imitossible to imagine two utterances more flatly contra dictory of each other than Victoria's appeal to the lord to avoid a collision with the com mons by yielding to them, and William's boast that he tolerated no power in kingdom beside him-1 Uead president ot tlie late southern confederacy. Let him rest in j peace but the soul of John Brown ' still goes marching on. j A RfssiA.v refueee Jew, recent ly landed in New York City who carried on his person the modest gum of :rl7,500 in gold, according to the reports of the news dis patches. Accepting the story as true, and also the incident that he saved his coin from confiscation by the Russian officials by surrepti tiously transporting it to the resi- der.ee of a brother, whose house was sear, hed before the officials came to the house of the owner of the coin, and a feeling of satisfac tion will invade every breast to learn that at least one man cir cumvented the despotic govern ment and saved his money from confiscation. Tun visit of the Emperor of ( Jermany to England, it is claimed has been one of great political significance, -and that it has ac complished much towards uniting the two countries, in common can e on questions affecting the interests of each. The visit was certainly very opportune just at present, as the iomp and show and w ell appointed parades, pleased the people, and renewed their fea'ty to royal personages, on which score they had recently had a very discouraging experi ence, and one calculated to upset not only thoir fealty but also their respect for kingly representatives. The deciples of the peculiar be lief knov n as tbeosophy, who have been under the leadership of .Madame Dlavatsky, who recently died, have had a new leader selected in the person of Lawyer William 1J. Judge of New York. It is claimed that the spirit of Madame Blivatsky and made the selection. The deciples will prob ably accept the selection and follow the new leader with perfect faith, and the rest of the world will move on inequaminity and a shade of unbelief that will hurt nobodv. French astronomers are cogita ting over the project of getting up some means of communicating with the supposed inhabitants of some of the stars and so fully have they persuaded themselves of the possibility of such a feat that they have imparted a similar belief to people with whom they come in contact with as a lady who has just died in that city, wills 100, 000 francs to the astronomer who shall first succeed in that attempt. Probably the prize will not be claimed for a few days to come. Tin-: Koch remedy for the tuber culosis is again brought into notice, by being compared with a new re medy that a Paris physician h:i9 brought into notice with a claim that he has discovered a sure cure. His remedy consists of subcutaneous injections of chloride of .inc. Whether it will prove to he efficacious remains to be tested, and the results will prob ably be as disheartening as were tliose over the Koch remedy. I havo been bothered with catarih for ahout twenty years; I had lost sense of smell entirely, and I hail almost lost my hearing. My eyes were getting so dim I had to get some one to thread my needle. .Now 1 have my hearing as w ell as I ever had, and 1 can see to thread as fine a needle as ever 1 did, my sense of smell is partly restored, and it seems to be improving all the lime.
