The action of the state medical board in refusing to recognize the diplomas of old practicing physi cians who were graduates of such schools as the Cincinnati Medical College and the Bush Medical College of Chicago, and have been eminently successful in their prac tice, having a large clientage at present, will be likely to ren ler the law both unpopular and inop erative, as the physicians will not submit to the demand for an ex animation with the attendant fees tu- go into the pockets of the loard. The plea that the colleges named are not in good standing because ttiey are two term schools is a puerile one. The most emi nent phvsicians of the country are among the graduates of the two term colleges. Left Oil' tile ConiinUalim. Pendleton East Oregonian : K. the the J. Hanson, of the Hanson Hop aud Malt company, of Milwaukee, arrived in Tacoma the other day, having made a tour of inspection of ttie California and Oregon Imp fields. Mr. Hanson said: ,-I predict that a large portion of the hops of Wash ing on will this year be destroyed by hop lice. The conditions seem favorable for a wholesale devasta tion of the Washington hops by that vermin. I think that our experiences in Wisconsin will be re-ieated. There the year pre vious to the season wheu the lice wiped our crop, there were millions of them. The prospects are that the Oregon and California hop yield this year will be much more of an average crop than the Wash ington yield.' He visited Puyall up and North Yakima. Last year his firm used 2500 bales of Wash ington hops. Mr. Hanson's atate- j ment in regard to the lice is cot ! r.borated by the Ptrtlaud dealers. One merchant who has mace a a trip of the Willamette valley and lias seen all the yards, says that reports in regard to the lice have been much ex)ggeaated. Notice. II. The spiruuralists of the Xortli ern Willamette valley w ill hold a grove meeting at Xew Era, Clack amas county, Oregon, beginning Friday, June 12, aud ending Julv 5, 1801. Eistern Oregon cattlemen are continually improving their breeds. The latest importation is a large held of thoroughbred shorthorns and Devons by Joseph Trippeer, of Wapinitia. At the Cascade Locks the water is so high that very ittle work can lie done on the canal. Stonecut'ing can stili be continued; but wotk in the bottom of the x ayaiion cannot be prosecuted. The little town of Hool Kiver has evinced a wonderful growth in the last few months, and beautiful cottages dot the hillsides in every direction. Manufactories are be ing put in operation, and the rich, natural resources of the vicinity are being developed. Another bridge burned on the Cnion Pacitic near Mosier Mon day. Passengers were transferred to a steamer and continued on their way. The Italics Times Mountaineer says: '"It seems possible, by a sullicient force of track-walkers, to avert these mis haps, and, as the lives of the trav eling public are endangered ry such occurrences, they have the right to demand of the company ordinary care and diligence as protection against them." A subscription paper was cir.'ti- I lated at Harney Saturday soliciting funds to aid in carrying on the work on the artesian well at Har ney, and was liberally patronized by the Burns people, consideiing the hard tim?s, says the Burns Items. All look upon this matter as one of puhlic importance, and wish to have the wotk carried on to a succestul termination. If artesian water can be obtained at llarnev. it m.iv be at other places in the valley also, well is now down over 1 HI with fair indications of a;" well. The fe;tt. Kliml School. Little Mary Ko'.rtH, of ville, who has been a pupil State Blind school for some Link at the time, paints a delightful picture of that institutoa, says the Klamath county Star, She enternl the doors last September and is noA able to read point print as rapidly as anyone reads a book. She be came quite an adept at type w rit ing, and she has learned to sew so well that she expects soon to enter the embroidery de partment. She is a very intelligent little girl, and it is touching to hear her tell how truly and why the inmates all love Mrs. and Miss Mcl'adden, Misi Olive Cop well, Miss Scott, the music teaher and Mr. Gardner, the net and hammock teacher. Tne institu tion is trying to get all the blind little ones, and w hy should it not? It is the best home on earth for them. The state supports the teachers, and the li tie ones, with their intellects and sympa thies developing among their own class, feel less keenly their com mon misfortune. Besides, they learn there to be self-supporting. That institution is a ctedit to Oregon. Iteatitifiil Women. Senator I Dolph is doing good work for Ore gon in writing for a public journal of such world-wide circulation : OKKOON's MILD WINTKKS. The climate of both Oregon and Washington is mild and equahV.
