Last Thurslav night J. II.
Whiteaker's store at Creswell was
broken into and the safe robbed.
The burglars drilled into the safe
and blew it open with powder.
They firet covered the Moor around

The editor of the Springlield

nice appearing young man struck
Springfield a few tlavs ago and the
editor of the (iaelte hired him to
canvass for subscribers. He pur
chased a horse and outfit and soltl
them to the young man on time.
Alter canvassing a few days the
oimg man sold his on! lit for
cash, which he pocketed along
with the subseripioii money he
had collected, and skipped out
without leaving his future address.

things to the value of about -follO.
there is no clue to the robbers, but
they are probably the same ones

By a singular coincidence
William Hayes, the burglar, ami
.lack Harris, the gambler, ended
their earthly career on the same
day. There may have been a
fatahtv in lhe game of cards they
played together the evening be
fore. They were in the Klite
saloon. Neither had a cent in his
pocket. One suggested a game of
cards for the drinks. The other
accepted the invitation. Fach
thought the other had money and
stiove to w in. Luck was against
Mayes ami lo lost the game.
Harris was considerably put out
because Mayes played for drinks
when he had no money, hut said
noih'ng about his own financial
condition. Neither of them got
the drink be played for so hard.
The following noon Harris beard
of the killing of Hayes and said bo
would, just for luck, go and take a
look at the corpse of the man who
I eat him out of a drink. An hour
later be was a corpse himself.
